Not sure the Rangers deal Yandle. Especially now that McDunnuh is hurt. Yandle has been playing yuuuuuge minutes in his absence. - PhillySportsGuy
Not sure why they would trade him while they are making a playoff run anyway. I haven't followed them at all though so I don't know if he's been laying an egg or what. |

He was the PK coach when they were 7th in the NHL with an 84.8% success rate in 2013-14. Did he forget how to coach or did the Flyers not have equal PKing replacements for Kimmo Timonen and Braydon Coburn and Adam Hall and simultaneously get less out of guys like Matt Read & Nick Grossmann (last year) than they were getting a few seasons ago?
It's not Lappy, IMO. It's the latter. - bmeltzer
I agree about the personnel being non-ideal, but do you not think that the way they play on the PK is a problem at all? The cross ice passes and open lanes? The PK looks very good at times which makes it feel like it isnt just a personnel issue |

Yeah, the schlub who took a 56-point team and overhauled it into a conference finalist (the very next year) and a Stanley Cup finalist (two seasons after that). The same one who built 106-point and 103-point teams the next two seasons after that.
The one who took two players who, despite being on-ice stars, had to go and turned the deals into Voracek, Couturier, Simmonds and Brayden Schenn?
Were some of the moves and cap decisions detrimental in retrospect? Yes. But Holmgren was FAR from a "schlub." - bmeltzer
I think Hextall will ultimately be a better GM, but that's no disrespect to Holmgren. He made a few questionable signings here and there, but I think the good outweighs the bad. |

I guess I need to slink into the thread today... 0-3-3...and the "BLACK Partial season plan" is 0-3-4 to infinity...
I sat there the whole first period saying to myself this is going to get worse tonight. They are playing a team who got their clocks clean and they are pissed off. The Flyers had to know Anaheim wasn't going to take that beating the Penguins put on them laying down. But there they went and laid a huge egg in the first period. Out shot 15-5 and it looked worse than that really.
Then they started the second period on fire and 5 minute in the penalty parade starts. Say goodbye to the momentum they built up.
Just overall a poor night. Wish I could have seen Stolie just to make a positive out of that mess.
Well I can expect losses again on 2/29, 3/7, 3/19 and 4/7 the way this is going. |

Maroon does have 2 inches and 35 pounds on him. I thought he did well standing in there and not backing down. - funmaster18
I guess people didnt see Maroons left eye either. Manning caught him flush and knocked him to his knee.. He was out muscled but certainly did a great job actually fighting. |

Schlub is just me attempting to be humorous. But I disagree. Holmgren was a bad General Manager overall. - PLindbergh31
Until now, this team's management problem has always been lack of patience. Whether it was Holmgren or Bobby Clarke or whoever, the Flyers have a long, frustrating history of trying to buy success instead of earning it.
It sucks right now, and it makes sense that we fans want to vent about all the issues currently wrong with this team, but Hexy is doing the right thing IMO.

He sure did put a beat down on Maroon's fists with his face. |

He's done well with heavily sheltered minutes. Due to Girardi being bad, I think it would really hurt them if they moved on from Yandle this year. The future for both the Pens and Rangers looks pretty bleak. The Rangers always seem to pull a rabbit out of their hat though. They'll move a big contract for a good return or sign a bunch of college FAs who become top 6 players or draft a stud in the 3rd round. |

Yeah, I thought that was pretty clear. At one point Manning could have tapped out and didn't. |

If they lose out can we officially ban you? - YuenglingJagr
My overall record is somewhere around a .600 win percentage even if they lose out this year. I'm thinking this is the year I just get to suffer for having good years during the previous 10 seasons.
Oh and the karma bus hitting me for Denver winning a Super Bowl when Peyton Manning looked like Trent Dilfer... |

I remember reading a study on the PK and it revealed that defenseman play a much more significant role than forwards. Losing Timonen and Coburn and now using MDZ, Streit, Gudas and Schultz is a huge down grade. Mason has also really struggled on the PK the last two seasons (since Timonen left). He was outstanding on the PK the year before. |

If you take a look at all of the trades/FA signings that Holmgren did, especially coming into that disaster in 06/07, I think you'd find that the good outweighs the bad. |

Funny take on the Leafs-Sens trade...may have been seen yesterday but it basically says the Leafs did everything they could on the ice this year to trade Phaneuf...funny how you can have other priorities when you arent trying to win
http://bleacherreport.com...-trading-for-dion-phaneuf - YuenglingJagr
Sometimes, guys like Phaneuf fit in with one set of personnel better than they fit with another set.
Look at Vinny....in that role they have him in in LA, he's doing fine. |

The Pronger injury doomed him. I think his thought was always to get Pronger and contend and hope Pronger would play until his late 30s or 40s. During that time, the team would draft and develop defenseman so when Pronger retired, they'd have guys ready to step in. I felt like he panicked after the Pronger injury. I don't think they sign Streit, Amac or trade for Luke if Pronger is healthy. |

Sorry Bill, I disagree on Lappy. If head coaches are held accountable to perform with the personnel they have why shouldn't the guy running the PK be held to the same standar?. I get that he isn't dealt the greatest hand to deal with but its not like our PK is made up of AHL schlubs either.
Edit: I used the term "schlub" before fully back reading. |

fine is debatable...but id call it downright wrong.
His possession numbers are still terrible and his shooting percentage is 2.5 times his career average. I think the team around him minimizes how bad he is.
In relation to the Sens I think their team is better suited for a guy like Phaneuf so I agree he will not stand out as much...we will see how it works for him, but like I said yesterday, I think how bad his contract is is overblown. He might not even be the most overpaid defenseman by the end of his contract. |

This is my belief also. That one injury had a huge effect on this team one that it really is still paying for. |

Aye...still think they wouldve added Streit though. He was well worth his contract |
