I just want someone with top line potential. I haven't really looked at the prospects yet. - PhillySportsGuy
Me either but I watched him and Laine at the World Jrs and they are both big, fast, aggressive, skilled and dominating. Feisty, wanting to win. Would be excellent to get another Finn. I miss Kimmo and SammyK. |

Here's my list of more reasonable high end forwards I think will be there when they pick: McLeod, Dubois, Keller, Jost, Bellows, and I guess Gauthier, but I'm not the biggest fan of his. Think he has the trappings of a poor ES crash-the-net player.
Problem is there are so many good d men around there too. I can't say I won't be bummed if they go D, but it's not unjustifiable. - Mononoke
Gotta go BPA. I just hope it's a forward. If they go D again, I would think they plan on moving one of them for a forward later. I know they don't have to, but I think it would make sense. Maybe it frees them up to move Sanheim or Morin in a deal for Drouin or someone similar. |

This is why I find his next contract to be so interesting.
I think it is easier to identify core guys with a well defined role and when they have that, the Flyers typically are more then fair and usually give at least market value or better deals to. G, Jake, Couts last deal for example.
B Schenn, less of a well defined role, but clearly has talent offensively. Not a great puck carrier. Is he a skilled guy or power forward or somewhere in between? He seems to have found a niche at RW with Couts. He is pretty solid on the #1 PP, at least at very good at puck retrieval and occasionally with goal scoring or setting up Simmonds. Less of a scorer from the high slot then Hartnell but not a huge drop.
I think Hexy may play hardball with him as he is RFA. That I think is hugely interesting. - Marc D
I see Schenn as a notch above Raffl, the definition of a grinder put in a higher role. Solid top 9, but not top 6. Average skater, average shot, tons of skill in juniors that doesn't translate to the NHL. What you see from Schenn now is what you will get. I would be content with a 2-3 year Read contract, more and you get a pricey depth player.

erhoff on waivers? we should claim him - 2Real
I have a german friend who is buddies with him. I met Erhoff a few days before he got drafted. He didn't think he had a shot. Always wanted to see him on the Flyers, mostly for selfish reasons as I could probably get some tickets out of it |

What about paying him a little bit more each year than he should get but only giving a 2 year deal? Still gets paid and has the opportunity to prove himself for something more long-term. He is still young so I don't think it's absolutely necessary to lock him up long-term yet, unless his agent is playing hard ball, then I look for a trade. He's played well this year but I still worry about his consistency and the role he plays on the PP IMO is replaceable. So if that's where most of his points are coming from, that lessens his value in my eyes.

he can't be any worse than our bottom 6 and once again it lets us deal someone also it's one less player another team can claim |

Puluuarvy or however it is spelled would be dynamite too. - Marc D
If Flyers win a non-1 lottery pick, I am all about that Laine. Puljujarvi is more well rounded, better skater (Jake like I think), and has the size. But he's definitely more pass first and his point totals aren't as high as one would expect in the Finnish league.
Laine...he's a pure sniper. He is doubling the shots per game of recent top Finnish prospects with 6 a game. That's Ovi level. He's much flashier, can play probably all 3 positions with work, and is definitely better offensively. I remember a scout said he plays a style a lot like Mario. Love me some Laine. |

I think Hexy is pretty astute at talent evaluation so I guess we will see what they think of him with the next deal. I bet he would be unhappy getting under $4M per, but as RFA not sure he has a choice.
They are so thin in the top 9 currently, I hope it doesn't force them into paying more then they should.
I'm not sure he isn't a top 6 wing. He won't carry a line but as a complimentary player. His drop off without Couts is very noticeable. |

I think his legacy is assured. What he did for hockey in Philadelphia will never be forgotten. I was pretty good friends with one of his daughters through high school and college. I have great respect for him and his family. - Marc D
I do as well. people can rip him all they want but Philly has been very lucky to have him as an owner if you ask me |

Streits deal cant fit under the cap of most contenders
Schultz isn't as good as most teams defenders
Medvedev could be great...he has tons of skill - YuenglingJagr
which is why I believe Steit will be moved a next year's deadline when he can easily fit under the cap |

I have my 3 tiers (Not in order):
Tier 1 (Impact NHL ready)
Matthews, Puljujarvi, Laine
Tier 2 (1-2 years away, high end prospects)
Tkachuk, McLeod, Nylander, Dubois, Chychrun, Juolevi
Personally if the Flyers BAP is one of the defensemen I would trade it if they can get great value from it, otherwise keep it.
Tier 3 (2+ years away, good prospects with unknown ceiling)
Gauthier, Jones, Keller, Rubtsov, Brown, Bellows, Sergachev
Flyers get a top 9 pick and I am pumped. |

I edited my post to sneak in non-1 pick haha. So no, probably not. But McKenzie said of the 7/10 scouts who chose Laine, half of them said Laine has a chance of going 1, even if Matthews is the heavy favorite. They wouldn't be shocked at least. Watching Laine highlights, he's just a force. |

Wonder if Detroit would do a streit deal if we'd take kindl off of them?
Kindl signed for 2.5 next year. Would compete for a roster spot plus maybe we can pull a 2nd from them |

here's one for you
EDM gets the 2nd pick and Matthews goes first.
Would you trade Provorov and our first (say Flyers pick #10) for Laine? |

I think I'd take Matthews. However, if I had the #1 or #2 pick, I would try to trade down the #3 pick (or #2 if I had #1) and add something else as well. |

I would just be worried about trading back to acquire more picks, NHL isn't like the NFL where you can get potential starters in the 5th round. The Eagles should trade the #13 pick and get a few more picks. If it were a deeper draft and we could get two really good prospects in the late first, I'd consider it. I don't know much about the prospects but from what guys here have posted, it seems like there won't be much outside the top 10-15 picks.
I feel like they need to take BPA, then possibly trade him in the future, or try and trade up and get a stud in the first few picks. If Hexy can acquire a few more assets at the TDL, we should have enough stockpiled that it might be worth trading up, depending on how the lottery chips fall. |
