I have a question.

I think it's a given Eric Lindros' number will be retired one day in Philly. I believe we all debated whether or not Hextall will be years before becoming an Assistant General Manager in Philly but this is a pretty big gray area and we've seen many 27's since him. What about John LeClair and Claude Giroux? Do you think these numbers will someday be retired? Another gray area, Mark Recchi.

Thoughts.

My thoughts

Hextall - yes
LeClair - no
Giroux - too early to determine but leaning no right now
Recchi - no

Matt Read and Scott Laughton are healthy scratches. Jordan Weal and R.J. Umberger are back in the lineup for the Flyers. Michal Neuvirth will back up Steve Mason in goal.

@ mrbigglesworth

I don't know if amac really garners mentioning

id resign raffl and trade read ideally. Bc raffl will be much cheaper. But he is a UFA and I'm trading any UFA at the deadline

I'm keeping Mason. Neuvirth if he can come back and be the same goalie after injury will get us a lot at the deadline, the extra year in his contract is a plus in this case

Read is a bit of a surprise, but Laughton has been trending towards healthy scratch status for a while and would be better off on the Phantoms than playing 8 minutes a night or being scratched.

Scratching Read to dress RJ. Nah, they're not tanking.

I kept saying that I wanted to see him on that line with Cousins and Schenn.

Gagner

Streit
Neuvirth

gagner is ufa

would you rather keep raffl or read?
would you rather keep mason or neu or both ?

I'm a little surprised Read's name comes up in the trade-deadline conversation. At a certain point, we're gutting what little team depth there is. I'm not specifically referring to either of the posters I'm quoting above, but just in general people complain about the bottom six on this team. Trading Matt Read for a third rounder that may never see the NHL isn't a worthwhile sacrifice, IMO. It doesn't do much to help the team now or in the future.
Gagner, Medvedev, and Shultz are the guys I'd try to move for mid-round picks. Streit, possibly, but again, how much do we want to gut the team? He may get a second rounder this year or a third next year, and next year he would be easier to move for contract reasons.

- ChoclitLeClair

I think Leier could replace Read's role.

Read also isn't 24. He is getting older and now that he is away from Couturier it seems his role is lessening a little.

I don't like Dave Hakstol. Last season Matt Read was horrid. Later it turned out he had an injury but for whatever reason, Berube felt it necessary to keep playing him. This season Read looks decent but it's pretty obvious he can't overcome the shortcomings of Laughton and Umberger, so Read gets punished.

Only way that would work is if one of our juicy prospects was going with them.

Hextall definitely. I mean the guy scored a goal for cryin' out loud.

I just always liked LeClair and he definitely impressed me with his speech. The Legion of Doom was a force and will be remembered in Flyers history. I think he and Lindros were such a dynamic duo that he deserves it.

I read a bleacher report article that quoted Hextall as saying he has some things going that he could do. Obviously most GMs probably do. If they hadn't been on a 3 game losing skid I'd think more of it, but I think this is just a way to shake things up given the last three games.

Good call. I'll try and get behind this idea...

I wouldn't mind seeing LeClair get his retired. Giroux still has a long way to go, IMHO, to get his number retired. Recchi I could see go either way and neither route would disappoint me.
- funmaster18

It's to early to tell but we all believe he's untouchable and this kid has carried this team on hia back most of his career. Assuming he isn't traded before age 33, he should be highly considered.
