Wasn't VDV tied up with him? What's he supposed to do?
- Mononoke

I didn't catch the hit in real time and only briefly saw the replay. after seeing it again I agree it was unnecessary with VDV already having tied him up

You play your game til the last whistle. I agree this hit was overboard but seriously guys don't keep there head up that's what happens. The responsibility is not solely on the defenseman throwing the hit IMO.
- funmaster18

I just don't think this one falls under that category.

I'm with you with keeping big hits in the game. You can't call a penalty for a hard check. This isn't high school. Lots of times, those kinds of open ice hits are those Kronwallish ones, where the defenseman catches a streaking player with the puck with his head down. Those are good hits, provided we keep our elbows down etc. If you're carrying a puck, there are certain situations where you should expect to be hit (or at least, expect to be lined up) if you're coming through the neutral zone.

But those blindside hits on suicide passes or these kinds are the ones that I think are completely on the D for throwing the hit.

Again- I only saw one replay because of my freezing feed, but this dude was very close to being on one knee while lunging towards the puck while being rubbed off by one our players. If memory serves me right, the puck wasn't even entirely in his possession at the time. He was well entrenched in the process of being inevitably separated from it.

Why is Gudas throwing that hit. The guy's head was so low Gudas hit it with his hip. That, along with being straight blindsided, is the textbook definition of defenseless.

Keep the big hits in the game. But keep the ugly ones out. This one was ugly.

EDIT: Just saw your other comment. Not trying to pile on bro. Just sharing opinions!

Did you see towards the end of the game, where they show the summary so far, they called Simmer...Wayne Simmons?

It's a sign.

Flyers really need to get on a roll now to have any shot at the playoffs. And even then it's going to be tough. and only two weeks until the trade deadline

I just get defensive right away because I don't want this to turn into the NFL where any defensive back that touches a receiver is basically automatically charged with a penalty

Biggest thing there with Gudas: this team needs every point. We're now going to be down a D man for a few games. For what exactly? 100% not worth it.

When is he expected back? First week in March? Conveniently right after the trade deadline..

I hear you on that. Or worse- if you sneeze on the quarterback

Not saying you're one of these people, but I think some over react to how the game is "changing". This is hockey. It's fast and physical and emotional. Hitting is always going to be a part of the game, and such, big hits will too. I actually like where it is now. There's always gonna be isolated incidents, but the NHL's really seen MUCH less Stevens out there. Which is good.

Gagner had another real solid game. Umby did good things, so did Weal. Everyone pretty much fell of during the third though.

Weal has played 3 games in the last ~2 months. That's tough. Guys like Gagner and Cousins are down in the AHL at least getting constant game action. I'd like to see Weal get in game shape.

He's faking it so he wouldn't get traded

When he was first counted as out the time table was right around a month. I don't know exactly when that was. Beginning of march sounds about right though.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but honestly....I haven't seen much from Weal to give me reason to not keep him in the lineup.

Seems like the only reason he's been scratched was to "make room" for someone. I think it's time we let the kid play.

We have consecutive losses coming up this weekend to the Jerksey Devils and the Rags, fear not.. we have plenty of room to slide.
