Ovi with another hatty tonight. 14th of his career.

Who's the next one to get 14 hat tricks. Stamkos? McDavid by the time I have kids? Seriously.

I don't think we quite realize how ridiculous Ovechkin is.

I just don't think this one falls under that category.

I'm with you with keeping big hits in the game. You can't call a penalty for a hard check. This isn't high school. Lots of times, those kinds of open ice hits are those Kronwallish ones, where the defenseman catches a streaking player with the puck with his head down. Those are good hits, provided we keep our elbows down etc. If you're carrying a puck, there are certain situations where you should expect to be hit (or at least, expect to be lined up) if you're coming through the neutral zone.

But those blindside hits on suicide passes or these kinds are the ones that I think are completely on the D for throwing the hit.

Again- I only saw one replay because of my freezing feed, but this dude was very close to being on one knee while lunging towards the puck while being rubbed off by one our players. If memory serves me right, the puck wasn't even entirely in his possession at the time. He was well entrenched in the process of being inevitably separated from it.

Why is Gudas throwing that hit. The guy's head was so low Gudas hit it with his hip. That, along with being straight blindsided, is the textbook definition of defenseless.

- Giroux_Is_God

Actually, it's the textbook definition of this:

(ii) Whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by
assuming a posture that made head contact on an otherwise full
body check unavoidable.

DOPS ignores the rules when it fees like it, but it's right there in black and white that players can't just bend over while skating and assume they are ineligible to be full body checked.

Biggest thing there with Gudas: this team needs every point. We're now going to be down a D man for a few games. For what exactly? 100% not worth it.
- hereticpride

Worse hits than the one by Gudas tonight have gotten nothing before, e.g. when Rinaldo jumped into Couturier in order to hit him in the head when the puck was long gone.

DoPS is so unreliable idk what will happen, but that hit is all on Gudas imo. First of all, the hit to the head was never unavoidable. The Sabre was tangled up in a puck battle with VDV. He had no balance or expectation he would be hit in that vulnerable position. Gudas charged at him, seeing the entire time he was tangled up and vulnerable. There was no sudden movement, nothing unavoidable.

Um all of them?

Alt will be up soon enough, surely next year for his trial. He's smarter, bigger, and more reliable than Manning. Could be a good bottom pair guy dependable defensively. Not flashy, but solid.

Friedman is on a similar trajectory to Ghost. Not saying he will be that good, but it's not outlandish to see him become another Torey Krug. Friedman is probably the most underrated Flyers d prospect.

Myers is oozing potential. He's raw and years off. But he could have home run potential. So yeah. We good.

Friedman has 17 points in 31 games. He's 4th on his team behind 3 forwards. The leader....has 19 points in 31. Not a lot to work with. He's also the youngest starter on his team. So he's doing aight for himself.
