The Flyers will more or less only retire numbers of players in the Hockey Hall of Fame (the "big" Hall in Toronto, not just team HOF and/or U.S. Hockey HOF). Barry Ashbee was a special case. - bmeltzer
That's reasonable. It should be a very high bar to have a number retired. |

You said, "We sorely lack offensive punch outside of the top 6, and Read isnt helping any."
That may be true, but he'd help the bottom 6 with that (and on the PK) a lot more than Umberger would. He's the best option we have. - jmatchett383
Umberger is going to make you look so stupid tonight [at least I hope (because that is better for the flyers)] |

Right... so my point is that maybe sitting a game will help kick start him and Laughton.
They are gonna need those two flying around this weekend.
swapping Read and Umberger for one game isnt the end of the world.
Now if the lineup stays the same for the weekend.. thats different |

Let's just retire every number for a player that was halfway decent, make it real difficult for current guys to pick numbers - Tomfan365
Neither one should have their number retired. I'd maybe retire Lindros, but that's it. I don't think anyone on the team right now warrants retiring. Giroux's the closest, but he's never been a top-5 guy at his position for a prolonged period (3-4 seasons) which the others (sans Ashbee) were. |

Not I... at least yet.
Let him continue to be the #1 guy in LHV.. After the TDL, Im game for all of that.
As of now, one game, let Read and Laughton sit and watch. Hopefully it kick starts them a bit |

So many hockey people still dislike 88 and Family... wonder when he'll have a real shot at making it. |

The Flyers also need to see what Weal can do in these last 30 games to know if he's worth keeping. |

I think now that people realize how bad concussions are.. they are starting to come around. Philly is the toughest city in the world to be a star in. Never appreciated. |

Read's 18 points in 51 games isn't that bad.
Raffl has 12 in 52 after scoring 28 in 67 last season. That's where the secondary scoring went. |

Question1 : Is it that big a deal that Umberger is back in the line-up? The Flyers did not win any games this week when he was a healthy scratch.
Question 2: Weal is in. Where is the rejoicing? |

Agree.
After the deadline I hope some spots open. Maybe they can move white or Vandevelde or even Bellemare to open spots up. Maybe Read is moved.
I would like to see Leier and Laughton together.

Couturier and Schenn were playing well and providing consistent scoring together. Problem is they need a playmaking winger.
If you can add a Konecny to that line it should get better.
Raffl and Read on a 3rd line together would be ideal to provide good two way play and depth scoring.
The problem is the flyers lack talent and guys are playing in roles probably not suited for them. |

Garrison out 3-5 weeks in Tampa. Maybe Hextall can get something from them for Medvedev and take back Ohlund to make the cap work. |

- said no Flyers fan ever since 2014
Also, I've rejoiced already that Weal is in.

exactly we don't have that talent on the roster to solidify a line we have guys that would be great support to a talented winger |

I think Schenn and Couts together have looked like 2nd line players who are effective. If we could find another winger for them (Konecny?). In the blog from yesterday, I mentioned targeting Boedker. Maybe he could be a guy to bring to solidify our 2nd line |
