We're still short a LW, I guess we could put Burrows back there but I was hoping he would get traded this week, leaving us short a LW. (frank)en Benning - A_SteamingLombardi

Guys can play their off wing it's not that big a deal. Watching Burrows next year collect 5 goals and a $4.5MM pay cheque is going to be brutal |

Desjardins also said Vrbata "could" be out a week which could hurt his value at trade deadline. #Canucks
Wondering if Vrbata is really hurt or if they are keeping him out of the lineup before the TDL so he doesn't get hurt and is able to be traded? - hillbillydeluxe
Hmmm... maybe, maybe not but this is a damn good idea.

I have no idea what our lineup is going to look like next season..
Sedin Sedin Sutter
Sven Bo Rodin
McCann Granlund Dorsett
Vey Gaunce Etem
forgot about Jake - hillbillydeluxe
That lineup would be so soft and fun to play against they'd have to charge other teams an entertainment tax. |

We don't necessarily have too many centers....
Sedin - 1 C
Horvat - 2 C
Granlund - 3C
Gaunce - 4C
Sutter, Mcann, Vey - moved to the wing. Cracknell won't be on the team next year. Gaunce can be swapped with Vey if they prefer him on the wing. I don't believe they want Mccan playing 4C - CanuckDon
Yeah, they may move McCann onto the wing, this is true. They tried it in preseason and seemed to like him at center more though. |

That's a 2017 3rd. Not this year's draft. Same with Toronto's San Jose deal. 2017 and 2018 picks. Those are really no more than hypothetical assets and won't have any impact on the Leafs for at least 4-5 years.
I prefer Benning's strategy of picking up RFA prospects that are better known quantities. Easier to more accurately project what their ceiling might be at the NHL level than any pick and won't take as long for them to help the veterans in your current lineup. - YeOldTimer

General Fanager has us with only 4 centres, 3 LW and 7 RW, so maybe we're trading Vitanen, see how (frank)ing crazy this way of thinking is. - A_SteamingLombardi
Well actually, the winger with most value is probably Vrbata or Hansen. I agree we will likely be trading a winger |

I don't want to go all conspiracy theory, but why not be cautious and keep him out?
Do these guys have to pass a physical when traded or is that only when their contracts are signed? |

Imagine if social media and these hockey websites were around when the Canucks traded an actual, good, NHL player like Bure
Edit: or the Linden trade |

Don't you listen to Phucker? I'm a delusional optimist! In all seriousness if Burrows has a great training program in the summer I could see him getting 4 or 5 goals. Corey Hersch said we will get a second for him at the deadline so must be a star |

I'm not defending Gillis but sticking with what's been working is not indecision, and I highly doubt he worried about his perception in the media. He was pretty arrogant. The Canucks had simply committed to a particular style of team play and they dominated the league with it for a while. After the application of the rules changed to favor the bigger American teams in the playoffs, he tinkered to try and add some of that to their lineup but we now know in hindsight it was never going to be enough. Lots of no-trades prevented them from switching and becoming the next Bruins overnight.
Drafting 29th and having traded away picks in several rounds year after year means your drafting strategy is going to be different than when you have most of your picks and are drafting in a higher position in every round. - YeOldTimer
Gillis definitely was wound up about his perception in the media. How can you not remember this. He entered every interview defensively and said one snotty thing after another. In interviews,,, even if a criticism was not presented, he was still in a defensive tone. It got worse and worse. Today the media still brings up how he eventually made enemies with them because he was so hung up on criticisms. Hell, he tied to get enough media fired because he didnt like having to defend his moves.... even though the media was kind to him until late in his stay here. MG would have a heart attack if he had to put up with what JB is going through... Gillis definitely cared...

JB has gone out and said that he likes Gaunce at LW, so I dont think we'll see him play center in the NHL, unless he shows he's amazing in faceoffs (he was pretty good in junior). That being said, I think JB wants to see this next year, least for forwards, I really hope JB doesnt think he has all the player he needs for defense next year so I wont touch it yet.

Regardless of position, we definitely didn't need anymore forwards, dont see any team wanting Burrows salary, or dorsett at all. I think Cracknell is fairly solid as a depth/fourth liner (he has a decent set of hands, is a good skater, and being in the nhl is the world to him so he works hard). There definitely has to be another move in JB, at least getting rid of some dead weight forward roster spots. Vrbata isnt going to be traded, with his injury, I guaruntee you. But I'm okay seeing him go for nothing, he wasnt a total waste of salary, plus it's not like he's zach parise or anything. If JB uses our first rounder on a forward and not a dman like Chyrchun (probably going to be in our range if we have some luck) I will want him fired. Getting etem/vey/baertschi isnt enough in my books. Get a gm that can actually work a phone. |

Luongo's contract was unmoveable until Tallon thought he had enough to work with in Florida that he needed a veteran goalie to backstop his young talent. Made no sense to pay for that luxury when you're a losing team on a low budget. Now that investment makes sense. Timing more than anything to do with the GM.
Again, not defending Gillis. Just trying to look at things a bit more realistically. - YeOldTimer
Gillis said no to some early offers. He publicly tried to blame Luongo for not waiving... Luongo called BS on it and said he was never approached about any trades to waive. So Gillis lied or he did have some options... and lied about turning them down. So, Gillis lied one way or the other...

forgot sutter in all that too, lik what a glut of forwards, if any center is to be traded in a package, one would think it would be him, but yet again, overpaid ;.; |
