I have a weird feeling that McCann IS getting traded this week. I hope I am wrong.
- Codes1087

Yeah, feels a little like the Hodgson season where he was toiling in the bottom 6 and progressing nicely and then he was gone. Except this time we are a little more suspicious of whats happening

I have said it before and I still believe it to be true....

No one will know who won this trade until 2020.

- Beatle_john

That's not true. Today the Flames won the trade. They got the better player.

People keep saying this must mean that there is another deal coming... Well no poop, the trade deadline is less than a week away and we are sellers... Hopefully

I've lost all faith in Benning as a GM. He over analyses deals, players etc... he has no management skills, he's a hockey mind that scouts players. He's going back to the well with players he's been high on before that didn't pan out (Bartkowski) or his AGM was high on that didn't pan out (Baerstchi, Granlund). I'm very concerned at what will happen in the next week.

The next week and the draft will shape this franchise for the next 10 years. I really hope he doesn't mess it up.

The difference is that McCann's sheltered minutes are in the press box.

Wussy tears, nothing to do with onions. I cry a lot because I don't watch hockey games.
- Marwood

Why don't you just put the games on in the background while you are crying and baking? You would then be knowledgeable enough to post on HysteriaBuzz and hopefully your tear pies wouldn't be compromised

I keep hearing people say this... But I haven't found any comparable stats that would back up this statement. Granlund has scored at a better pace than Shinkaruk at the AHL level, and is, by all accounts, better defensively.

I will tune into the next game just to watch how the 2nd and 4th lines play, I like them keeping younger guys together

How can anyone rationally say that they got the better player when he has had 9 minutes of NHL ice time? Lots of careers are started and ended in the A.

The Flames got the better player...interesting. What if he never makes the NHL? Is he still the better player? He is a B level prospect and none of us know if he will have a better career

are you ready with the matches, wood and gasoline?

(I vaguely remember a line from a movie, "some people.... sit back and watch the city burn", can't remember the movie (Bond or comic book movie) or the line)

Carol, I disagree that this move has anything to do with this season. Benning knows we aren't making the playoffs. Benning, Linden, Green and the scouts aren't high on Shink so they wanted to ship him out before they were forced to play him in the NHL. I think it's fairly simple, they felt his value would diminish as he flounderd on the Canucks next season. I tend to agree but we won't know if it was a smart move for a few years. I think Shink would get crushed in the NHL and he will have trouble scoring as well. His shot is pretty average so he won't be able to score from the perimeter like Boeser or Mccan are able to.

Also—Shinkaruk played in Medicine Hat! He was linemates in junior with Emerson Etem! Does the Willie connection mean nothing to this team anymore??

you are correct Carol... Willie D is on his way out after next season if he doesn't produce... he's on borrowed time unless he can get more out of this group or show that he's developing the younger players... getting a system in place for the PP and not playing the fourth line more than the first in the last five minutes might help also...

Look at Jeff Carter and Mike Richards. Prime examples.

Granlund will never be anything more than something we could easily have picked up on waivers or drafted in the 5th round. Shinkaruk has high end talent, and could be a 1st or 2nd line winger. Granlund will never be that.

The move makes no sense. We gave up a younger player for someone who is about to become waiver eligible. Basically we let the Flames off the hook. Smart move Benning.
