reality: Hamhuis has never been valued for his point production and Vrbata has scored 20 or more 4 times, 30 last year. - neem55
Take a look at Sbisa's numbers and Hammers...tell me what you see?
I'm not saying the Hammer isn't tradeable and that he won't get a return. Hell I'll be overjoyed if I'm wrong and will eat crow willingly for weeks.
But put yourself in Chicago's shoes: why do you give up a #1 and a highly touted dman for Vrbata and Hammer? Does that deal seem like smart move for your org? |

Oh...no doubt he'll get traded with a comment like that - Chicago or Washington maybe? But I would be shocked if Chicago gives up a #1st and Dman prospect...2nd rounder more likely...even that would even be a steal. - Ronning4ever
Who knows.
Hamhuis is probably the best D rental on the market (Buf signed and Yandle looking like he's staying). They come at a premium and have generally garnered good returns.
Didn't Sekera get a 1st just last year? I'd argue Hamhuis is more valuable come playoff time then him. |

I guess we have to temper expectations...
That Pokka sounds like a good fit on our d, and is a righty... the cynical side of me always tells me there is a catch that doesn't make it such a great move. |

Yet another Stanley Cup, which those two certainly increase the odds of, or two futures? |

I would love a Canucks jersey with Pokka on the back. |

because your window is only so big and you want to win again this year, they traded a first for Vermette last year who is arguably worse than Vrbata both then and now. Hammer can slot in and log big minutes. The same reason this happens with teams every year. Pokka is supposed to be pretty good, but from what I understand it's top 4 not top 2 potential. |

Fair enough, I kinda thought the same thing but reading his twitter timeline he seems...fairly confident.
Also I'm not sure why people are undervaluing Hamhuis here. There's no absolute clear cut runaway Cup winner this year which means it's wide open. Hamhuis is by far and away the best D-man on the market which would reasonably mean half the teams sitting in a playoff spot would be interested. If Roman Polak gets 2 second rounders then Hamhuis is worth at least a prospect and a high end pick. Not to mention the fact the Canucks are throwing in a legit goal scorer (when he plays with the right people).
High end D-man (which Pokka is) and a first seems kinda reasonable. Makes Chicago instantly better and it's exactly what the Canucks need |

he's got the Sedins getting better in the 3rd quarter and Bo/sven getting worse - neem55
Three factors were considered in assigning grades: performance, results and expectations, as framed by age, previous performance and cap hit/contract average annual value (AAV). Skaters must have appeared in a minimum of 25 games and goalies, 15, to be graded.
Bo has been one of the best players of late, guess that would be 3rd qtr... point streak and all.. |

As a GM looking to bolster your team for a cup run, you look for certainty. You make sure you have as much depth as possible to compensate for inevitable injuries. You also want experienced vets who are proven. You expect they'll be able to handle the pressure situations better than someone who's younger and maybe has had a stronger regular season. You might start your younger guys and keep the hired gun you traded for in the press box, but he's still there and ready to come in if your own guys can't step up. Bottom line is, giving your team the best chance for success in a cup run covers your ass and maybe keeps you in your job if you don't win. That's why teams overpay more at this time of year than any other.
Hamhuis' resume suggests he's worth a first. |

I would say his grading system was pretty accurate. No way in hell do I give you A or B with a -30. |

I was just surprised that he had so many guys having better 1st than 3rd quarters, then shows the Sedins improving even though they have clearly run out of stem since december. Also, I just think Button is french for Buffoon, or maybe the other way around. |
