He should sit regardless if the intention is to move him. Can you imagine Canuck nation if he takes another puck to head again tonight. Holy crap |

What's more important.
Yet another Stanley Cup, which those two certainly increase the odds of, or two futures? - Whiskey-Tango

Hossa, Kane, Shaw, Terravainen, Panik. Explain to me where Vrbata @ $5M fits in with all those other RWs?
Hamhuis, maybe. |

How has Hamhuis looked this season?
I know his offense is down (not that he put up big numbers offensively) and he's getting less ice time this season. Is he sound defensively? Does he have (some) speed? Is he more of a bottom pairing d-man these days or can he still get top-4 minutes and produce well on a contender?

Contrary to your opinion, I've seen Vrbata play since before he was a Hawk 7 or 8 years ago.
There are other LWs out there, Ladd, Boedker, McGinn, etc. Why target a guy who doesn't play there primarily? I know, I know, that fact doesn't fit your narrative today. |

At the beginning he looked liek something was nagging at him, but since coming back he seems more like his old self. |

He's not a point producer or fast by any means, but since he has returned from injury he has returned to form as a very consistent, smart shut down guy who can get the puck efficiently out of the zone. |

Take a look at Sbisa's numbers and Hammers...tell me what you see?
I'm not saying the Hammer isn't tradeable and that he won't get a return. Hell I'll be overjoyed if I'm wrong and will eat crow willingly for weeks.
But put yourself in Chicago's shoes: why do you give up a #1 and a highly touted dman for Vrbata and Hammer? Does that deal seem like smart move for your org? - Ronning4ever
This highly touted Dmen is behind Keith, Seabrook and Hjalmarsson on the depth chart, so to Chicago he is not a #1. |

Other teams are less likely to eat salary. WPG and Ari have internal buggets. |

As far as the haul that Vancouver would get, let's be a little realistic.
Assuming the 'Hawks JUST want Hamhuis, I think that a prospect like Carl Dahlstrom and a 3rd/4th round pick would suffice. |

He's been fair. The whole team has generally sucked and he hasn't been immune. He also took a puck to the jaw and basically had his face reconstructed and he missed a lot of time. All that being said he's a legit top 4 stay at home D man. I always figured he'd be really good to pair with an offensive minded partner (I think you have a couple of those) |

Shaw is already playing out of position at 1LW with Toews and Hossa. They need a LW so he can go back to 3 or 4 RW where he is most effective.
Which is why Ladd, Boedker, or McGinn make a lot more sense. It will all shake out soon enough. I think Hamhuis would be a decent get. Vrbata just doesn't fit what they need at forward at all. |

As far as the haul that Vancouver would get, let's be a little realistic.
Hamhuis, at this stage of his career, isn't going to warrant a first round pick. Vrbata, who struggles without the Sedins, is getting third line minutes and has a big cap hit. He's more of a liability than an asset.
Combine the two and their cap hits in a trade, and you would likely get a mid round pick (or two) and an okay prospect.
Assuming the 'Hawks JUST want Hamhuis, I think that a prospect like Carl Dahlstrom and a 3rd/4th round pick would suffice. - TommyHawk
So your saying he is worth as much or less than worse defenders have gotten recently? |

Roman Polak got 2 2nds. Gonna be a bit more than that. |

I would say his grading system was pretty accurate. No way in hell do I give you A or B with a -30. - thundachunk
The grade is per qtr... Bo is -30 (or w/e) for the whole season and I think he got a lot of the minuses against him earlier in the season, getting off to a slow start and picking up the slack when Sutter went down.
Expectations play a role too in the grade, I have been happy with Bo's development and his play this year.
but whatever, who really gives a sh!t what a tsn talking head has to say, just posted it for a chuckle.

Good luck without Hamhuis then, I'd rather trade him to Wash or Dallas. |

I don't know if the injury allowed him to recover from a nagging injury or other ailment, but I think he has looked better than he certainly looked at the start of the season. |

Not necessarily. But I'd imagine that the Roman Polak deal (most recent example) is a good comparison. Sure the Leafs got two second round picks, but Polak is four years younger, producing a bit more offensively, and has more value with a cheaper contract. Not to mention that Spaling is an okay bottom-six player.
If the 'Hawks were to trade for Hamhuis and a player like Vey, I'm sure it would be for an eerily similar return.
But what if it was JUST Hamhuis, is a prospect and 3rd/4th round pick different than just a second? |
