Yeah. agreed. I just don't like the notion that Raffl and Read are easily replaceable. It just makes more sense to me to hang on to them while continuing to add. If someone makes a great offer, I'd pull the trigger, but to dump Raffl for a pick that likely never becomes better than him seems like poor asset management.
The Flyers aren't the Leafs. They'll probably contend for a playoff spot next year and may start contending for real in 2017-18. - PhillySportsGuy

Yup. Barring a miracle and winning a top 3 pick, I'd be fine going into next season with something like:
Jake-G-Simmonds
Raffl-Coots-Konecny
Read-Cousins-Schenn
VDV-PEB-Laughton
If they could move Read and perhaps add some more size up front, even better. But I could live with those lines. And yes, I do think Konecny makes the team out of camp next season. - BiggE
I'd be shocked if he doesn't. His speed will be a nice addition to a pretty slow forward group. |

Can anyone explain the draft lottery this year, is it the first 3 ? And how does it work. |

I don't think we knew Simmonds would be a top line PWF for a while, or Jake would be what he is now. You understate how long it takes young guys to really develop into what they are and show who they are in the league. Some guys come in and can have an immediate impact and are more predictable but thats not the norm. - orangekrush2010
.....We were the team trading the proven top 6 player in Mike Richards for a still unknown (relative to what he's now) Wayne Simmonds and an entirely unproven NHL player in Schenn. I'd say we made out like bandits. And you're saying we should be on the other end, trading the lesser knowns for the known. Maybe there will come a time, but this team probably won't even make the playoffs say the odds. We aren't the Cup winning Kings.
Same thing with Carter. WE were the team trading the proven player. I'd rather keep a Coots, Jake, and a Cousins than trade them for a Carter. |

The Flames also weren't going to re-sign Hudler. All indications are that the Flyers want to and intend to sign Raffl. - PhillySportsGuy
And I honestly don't mind Raffl being on the team, if the contract is reasonable. No issues with that at all.
But at the same time, the Flyers, while not a bad team like the Leafs, still aren't good enough. It's not a crime to look around and see how you can upgrade, if you can upgrade.
You can balance patience with attempting to get better. The Flyers proved this last year, by shipping out Braydon Coburn for picks and an injured player. Coburn is the best player in that deal, but you sometimes aren't good enough for where the team needs to go

I mean....would they actually do that though? I'm aware they could, but it's more the fact that if he is signed, Hakstol will have the chance to continue to slather him with attention, minutes, and/or oil. I'd be pleasantly surprised to see him waived. |

Even if the flyers don't get in I just want to see the pens miss after getting kessel. That would be enjoyable |

Yes I would like to be on the other end if the guy was younger and can continue to grow with our group. At some point you have to make a move to shore up areas of weakness and not pin all your hopes on an unproven guy coming in and being what we'd want. Sure, we can afford to wait a little but it doesn't change my thinking at all if we waited another couple of years. |

With the way Fleury has been going, it might be better to focus on trying to catch the Wings. I don't think Schultz helps the Pens, but it does look like Sullivan has them all on the same page and Hagelin is really helping those bastards. He could've had four goals today

They only moved Coburn because they got a great deal. If a great deal like 2 2nds is offered for Raffl, they will take it.
I just look at the expected value of a late 2nd rounder in a mediocre draft and think it's worse value than Raffl. It's not like you save a ton on money either because Raffl will need to be replaced.
I feel like if the Flyers had more skill in their lineup, Raffl and Read's contributions would be more evident. Raffl stood out last year because he played with great players. He helped elevate their games |
