Honestly this should change nothing about Hextall's trade plans. If they squeak in it will be fun for the first round, until they probably get eliminated. And they may not even make it in the playoffs.
It's about the long game. Hexy knows this -- just like he sold Coburn, their best d man last year, while they were still reasonably in the hunt. |

I listened to the game while at work so I didnt actually see it but it seemed from what I heard that Laughton and Cousins may be developing a nice rapport on the ice. That could be something to look forward to for next year.

I always want them to win, but a defense of Ghost, Streit, Gudas, Schultz, MacDonald and Manning...with no MDZ coming back... I am honest. That simply isn't good enough to get in and/or do a single thing when you get there.
If you can sell one of Streit or Schultz, you gotta do that. Gagner, Read, Raffl...if you get a fair offer, I would hope something would be done
Teddy Purcell went for a third...that's about what I would expect for Raffl. Maybe a fourth for Read, a fifth for Gagner |

Hard to say...Phoenix was all over them at various points. Ghost did some good things, got overwhelmed a couple of times
He did not look bad. More so, he looked like a talented rookie defenseman against a team that, while not the most talented, came at them hard

Based on Hexy's trade demands for Raffl, he isn't being traded short of a slam dunk deal. And I think trading Read for a 4th isn't good value -- he adds more to the team as is than getting back a meh 4th. Now, Gagner for a 4th? Sure. Maybe he can put the screws to someone and get a 3rd with how good he has looked.
Streit finally looks back to usual. If someone offers a 1st, sure. But I'm not opposed to keeping him until next deadline if the market isn't quite there. My fears of a rapid drop off have diminished with his health concerns, and his contract looks better one year from now. Schultz? For sure. But I think Hexy/Hak view him as a "structure" guy they want to keep. Medvedev should be shopped for a 3rd. Other than that, maybe a surprise is in store. |

I have my fingers crossed that Hextall will bring in a youngish top 6 guy to improve our offense..probs won't happen but i'd love to see it. |

He's not. And if he does? It's getting rid of a top prospect or someone in the top 6 already. And that's a lateral move for the present at best. |

trading a prospect for a young top 6 guy is not a lateral move. You'd be getting the better player in the deal, and who knows the prospect might not even pan out.
not that I'd want him that much and it won't happen obviously but as an example
sanheim for evander kane...a trade built around something like that. JUST as an example. |

I think Read does some good things, but I also think his contract is a little pricey for what it looks like he is now. I value some of the possession metrics, but I don't think his speed is what it used to be and I maybe would want the Flyers to be free of that deal, depending on the return
If they get a third for the Russian, that would be nice. I would much rather see Schultz get moved, too. Don't hate him. Hate that he's under contract for another season

What player are you talking about? Hoping for a trade for "unknown magical young top 6 guy" isn't much to go on.
And if you're trading for a young firmly entrenched top 6 guy, it would require more than 1 prospect. Probably a roster player or a high pick. |

If they made a move for a guy who they knew could handle Couturier's LW, I agree that isn't a lateral move |

I don't think Read is worth his contract, but he's a very good hockey player, if not a point producer right now. He used to put up 2nd line points in 3rd line minutes. Now he posts 3rd line points in 3rd line minutes...but he plays good 3 zone hockey. His minutes and points aren't the empty variety. My point was that his value to the team, even with a little inflated contract, is worth more than a low pick that equates to a salary dump. |

Yeah, we'd be set up really nicely. And then we can head into the draft to further build our top end of our forward prospect pool and would still have most of our great d prospects. |
