“He got a lower body injury. I’ll never substantiate or answer those questions because I don’t want you guys to know or I’d just come right out and tell ya. That’s not you guys. That’s the other team. I don’t want the enemy to know.”
God bless you, Ron Hextall. - jmatchett383

Maybe I missed it in the past but god forbid what happens if Mr. Snider passes. Does he have children who would then run the team? Maybe Bill can shed some light. I don't know his family tree or what would happen. - J35Bacher

I think when Eddie is no longer around, it will be Comcast that decides his successor.
edit: we'll just ask them to appoint Jsaq to the position.

Pens next two games at Washington, home vs. Rags
Flyers next two games home to Edmonton, and Columbus.

A little aside on the Flyers penalty killing difficulties this season.
I think some folks are giving Lappy a bad rap for their struggles on the PK this year. To me, the PK and protecting a lead at the end of a game is where their lack of quality top pair Dmen stands out. There is absolutely nothing that any coach can do that is going to turn Michael Del Zotto into the savvy defensive warrior that Kimmo Timonen was. Nor is a coach going to magically grant Nick Schultz or Gudas the strong skating stride and huge reach of a Braydon Coburn. Until the D corps improves, they will continue to struggle on the PK and when protecting a lead at the end of the game. When you are down a man, and you're matching up against the other teams best players with the likes of Mark Streit, Radko Gudas, Nick Schultz and/or AMac, you are going to struggle.
Ian Laperriere was an excellent penalty killer for a long time in this league. I'm pretty sure he knows what it takes to kill penalties at the NHL level, I mean come on, it's not rocket science. He just doesn't have the horses on D to be consistently successful at it. - BiggE
This is very fair. I will admit to questioning Lappy's coaching at times, but the lack of a true top-pair defense really shows on the PK. Defense really does play a huge role in all aspects. Look what having a real offensive-minded defenseman in Ghost has done for scoring.
I think that situations like this will be the downfall of teams like Colorado (now, and in the future). Their structure is to go for full-out offense. I think they will pay dearly for that in the playoffs.

Really like how the team is playing and how Neuvy just keeps on rolling here. It's so hard to make up ground in the playoff race unless a team just tanks it. Unfortunately, I think it's going to be hard to catch Boston, Det or Pitt. - Hextall271
Pittsburgh is their best chance. They have 3 head to head games against them. |

A lot can happen in 18-20 games. Isles are only 4 points ahead of us for 3rd division spot. |

That's a good question. He has both a son and a daughter, however he actually only owns a minority stake in the team. The majority owner is Comcast. With that in mind, who knows what will happen when Mr. Snider is no longer around.
Quick aside: I loved how Jimmy Watson referred to him as "Eddie" last night. I was starting to think it was a team rule that all current and former players must refer to him as Mr. Snider or else!

I think only the Bullies call him Eddie everyone else it's Mr Snider. |

I agree with you 100%, but at the same time, I think a PK coach is pretty overrated. Yes,, you have to have a system in place and players have to know their responsibilities, but a lot of it is anticipation. It's what made Mike Richards such a SH threat; he knew where the puck was going, and knew exactly when to step into the lanes. Now, the ultimate key to a PK is to not get scored on, not scoring a goal, but being able to read and react quickly is what you need, and we lack a defenseman who can do both (read and react) at a high quality. |

I hope the entire Philadelphia media base hates him. Just like when Richards wouldn't talk to the media because they kept digging into his personal life, I applauded him for it. His job was to play hockey and talk about playing hockey. Hextall's job is to make a roster moves and, if he feels like it, to discuss roster moves he's made. Any more than that is a nice gesture on his part. |

I am curious to see if there is coach turnover after this season. I understand having talent but the PK seems so stagnate and passive.
ALso after a full year now Hakstol can evaluate and bring in HIS guys. They seemed to keep Lappy and Murphy more since they were here and allowed hakstol just to coach instead of having to find assistants right away. |

I like to know exactly what coaches seem to want to know: who's available to play and if someone is out, what's the expected timeframe. |

With all the young defenseman on the way, I just want a good defensive assistant coach that is good at developing young talent, whoever that is |

Q: Can you give us an update on Jake Voracek?
A: “Jake’s going to be out approximately two weeks.”
Q: Is he going to need surgery or anything?
A: “No.”
Q: Is that surprising? I think it seemed like it wasn't going to be that long.
A: “No, it was a wide range. That’s probably on the light end so we got good news.”
Why would Jake being out two weeks be surprisingly long? He's in a walking boot FFS. |

So I know I am getting ahead of myself, but I feel the Flyers need another solid top 6 forward. How much is Lucic going to demand on the open market. Having him and Simmonds on the roster make like a living hell for opponents to deal with. |

I know that we as people want to know everything, but does it matter? Whether or not Voracek misses a week or a month, does it matter if we know it? I'm sure the Flyers know it, and I don't see how it helps them win if the other team can pre-plan for who's in and/or out. |

Tough to say right now. Can Konecny earn a top 6 spot? They also need to resolve the Schenn contract.
I think Lucic is going to get something like 6-7 million. I would still prefer to make a play for Stamkos if he makes it to FA.
