Bill another superb blog today, thank you. We are very fortunate to be able to read your work every day.
JSaq such great comments on Ed Snider. Spot on and also appreciated.
Ed Snider is the Flyers.
3 more games against the Pens and it looks like they may be very meaningful games.
As a fan I am thankful for this. This team has surprised me this year where they are right now. At one point I was watching scoreboards to root for teams below us to win so we would have a better draft position.
I'd much rather see them fighting for a playoff spot and to have meaningful games against an arch rival. This is what it's all about. Proud of the team for hanging in there through some key injuries.
Also think Hexy played it right yesterday, not sending bodies flying out for mid low draft picks.
Hope they continue to win. This is fun. I know they will be first round fodder if they get in but I don't care, want to see them fighting to get in.

This. How many of the kids can you re-sign for $10M too. 3? 4? 5? - Tomahawk
+1
Also Stamkos has said he prefers to play center. So we are paying 10 million for a 2c? |

Ideal situation is finish the year strong, mid round 1st pick, and we trade Streit half retained with Read and our 1st + (?) to move up in the draft and sign Stamkos. - arichardson22
Not sure how things work, but are the flyers on the hook for the 3 retained salaries until July 1st, or the end of the season (playoffs).
Can salary be retained at the draft? I know it's more appealing after the bonuses are paid on July 1st |

And you plan on gutting the roster to clear the room for him? - PhillySportsGuy
Weren't we planning on gutting the team anyway? Streit and Schultz have to go at some point. Read might also. Provorov, Sanheim and Morin at some point will join the team cheap. I think the Flyers need a back up plan if G ever goes down long trrm. So my answer is yes, especially because Stamkos is still young. |

They'll need to re-sign their young guys too. It's easy to clear money for next year, but what about the year after that and the year after that? |

Amazing Hextall got a # 3 for him. Astounding another team would waste an asset on a cementhead. |

Stamkos is overrated. He's not worth $10M IMHO. That's why Yzerman hasn't given him the money. He's watched more Stamkos games than any of us, but he refuses to pay him the same as Toews, Kane and Kopitar because he's not as good as those guys.
For $10M, you better be getting a guy who can do everything and absolutely dominate games because you aren't going to be able to put great pieces around him. He's going to need to be able to carry his line and make them good. Stamkos doesn't do that. He needs guys around him. - PhillySportsGuy
I agree with this for the most part.
However, I'd take a pre-broken leg Stamkos above the Toews, Kane, and Kopitar. |

After next year the Streit and Umberger come off the books. That's about 9 million on cap hit.
The cap could go the other way and make even more room.
I don't think it is as far fetched to see the Flyers explore Stamkos as people think. |

In the pre Hexy days I think it was a given they would go after him.
Now I'm not as certain. |

Where do you play him? He repeatedly has said he's a center not a wing. That would be 25 million down the middle a season. And open market he's looking 12 MMillion a year it sounds like. |
