The more I think of the trades, I'm kinda torn/confused. I guess its good Shero didnt rush and do bad trades but kinda feel a lot more could have been done? Maybe packaging Gelinas/matteau for higher pick - if the other team needed both?

Basically I would have liked to see more dumping of players so the kiddies can play rest of year, like Toronto is doing. This will bring us down in the standings which we want, but also give the kids 20+ games of exposure.

But I'm sure Hynes has input with this and he has already proven himself in my eyes, so I think we can extend the 'In Hynes We Trust'

I would of liked to have traded guys like, Ruutu, Tootoo, Kennedy, and Gionta even for 7ths. Maybe Elias too, Timonen was in the same situation last year and I think this will be Elias' last year, at least with us. Other then that, I liked what happened. Gelinas will probably have offensive success in Colorado if he is used right, but they also got a lot more talent up front, but I don't see his defensive game changing.

Me to. Never believed there was much potential there and certainly think that if both players reach their potentials we will have the better player.

it's about the business model. it's all clicks based on ad revenue. a gm of team x calls team y about player z. this trade will probably never happen but ek tells you about it because he wants content to go up every day so he gets clicks. It's not about being "right", it's about the business.

Also, this is his website. He can do whatever the (frank) he wants and you don't have some unalienable right to post whatever you want. they can delete your posts at will and there isn't anything you go do about it. If you don't like how they do things, then leave. You have the choice to post here, twitter, reddit, whatever.

I'm never going to look back at trading Gelina or Matteau as a bad move regardless of how they develop with their new teams. Bottom line is they weren't developing well here for whatever reason and there was no point in keeping them. The coaching staff and style of play isn't going to change here any time soon.

If they figure it out elsewhere with new coaches in different systems then great for them and I wish them the best.

All things being equal I would have rather thrown in the towel on Merrill, but I can't think why anyone would have offered us anything for him.

Ray did a fine job yesterday and if he can extend Schelmko on a good deal then it's even better.

DSP trade was the only "Why?" move. Then again, Matteau wasn't panning out. That 2nd from Boston next year was a solid win. Speaking of solid wins, go get one tonight Carolina!

So, I don't get why some people don't even want Elias on the team.. There's plenty of room in the top 9, and with the leagues worst offense, he'd be nothing but an upgrade.
As far as next yr goes, if he wants to come back for another yr, what would be the problem? He'd still be an upgrade over guys like Kennedy on the third line.
I get this is a rebuild, and you need young players to play to develope. But, you don't just throw em to the wolves when you could have a proven vet like Elias in your top 9 instead.
Plus, he's been my favorite player since he came into the league, so I get offended lol.

The reason why is because he's done. He's not Jagr at 40. And I think Shero will fill the top 9 next year, not with just Kennedy's. He is now Zubrus for those who Zub gone last year because his play fell off, that is now Patty. Most of us grew up watching him, but that doesn't mean we should just give him a pity contract because no one else will. They need to move on this off season.

I'm not saying that he couldn't be useful for something, but with all the old regime gone except Elias, it's just time to move on from that time period. Let him be a developmental coach.
