That is a tough one.
I do definitely think the Kruger contract had an impact on Lewis's asking price. Whether or not he prices himself out with LA? Who knows, I could see it. To be frank, the Kings might also be ready to separate themselves from Lewis with Nic Dowd and Andrew Crescenzi waiting patiently in the minors. With Lecavalier retiring that could set the Kings up for a 2016-17 center lineup of 11-77-21-Dowd. That's not bad. Then again, Lewis can also play wing, so that group may come to pass as is, with Lewis playing 3/4W.
It's a tough question. He is not EXACTLY like Kruger, but I'm sure his agent will see 4th line forward who is good defensively and motion towards a 2-2.5 range given his body of work and the going rate. If that happens it'll be tough to the Kings to hold on to him with a Lucic extension looming.
I had seen that line from vinny and it struck me too but in the sense that when offensive players come to the Kings they lose their scoring touch and creativity. Now it seems that it is the system but not in and of itself but rather that everyone is expected to play within it. Makes me wonder if some top lines around the league aren't asked to play within their teams system but rather are just told to go out there and score some goals? I don't know why but I always assumed top to bottom players worked within the framework of a system.

Going to have a post on this later today. Some system stuff that hopes to explain why the Kings centers are always so low scoring but hold possession. Look for it in the afternoon/evening.
