So then nylader doesn't count for the leafs? You have marner and that's it?
A young guy is a young guy.
Does Toronto have better prospects cuz marner is still in London while McDavid and eichel are in the nhl? - sensarmy_11
Nylander has played like 6 games.. Hes still a prospect.. i don't think any site or whatever that is going to list prospects will call Mcdavid or Eichel prospects anymore.. He didn't say toronto has some of the best young guys he said they have some of the best prospects.. i think there's a difference there. |

Copy......so if you discount the teams who have a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds who are already really good NHL players, then the leafs have one of the better group of prospects..... |
|

Leafs have the 4th best ranked prospect group according to hockey's future. Take it for what it's worth, but they certainly have some nice young pieces coming along. Remains to be seen if they can be cornerstones or just supporting pieces.
Sens are ranked 21st.
Yotes are ranked 1st.
Avs are ranked dead last.
This site counted McDavid, Echiel, etc as prospects. |

yeah.. you ever read a prospect list? sheesh.. thats what most people consider a prospect.. player who hasn't established himself as an NHL player yet, for whatever reason. Sometimes use certain game mark as a stopping point like 50 games or something. I don't know if you're playing dumb or what so you could take a shot at the Leafs but I don't understand why you aren't getting that.. When it comes to drafted NHL prospects in the system who aren't established NHL players yet, Leafs easily have a top 10 pool. Though you take out Nylander and its questionable and on a lot of other teams he probably would have played from the start of the year, but Leafs are letting them stay back longer then before. |

Oilers really have no depth to their pool. using Mcdavid as a prospect id say their number 1 though Hockey News has Toronto as 6, Not using Mcdavid or Eichel as prospects anymore. |

Not to take any wind out of your sail but there was a time when the Sens had the best ranked prospect pool in the NHL. Now look at us. You could be looking 5 years into the future watching a Sens game. |

Exactly, I don't think it means an extreme amount to have a high ranked system but it defiantly helps. Leafs have a lot of high end forward prospects, but sorta weak on D. They have some nice pieces but obviously they wont all pan out. They're doing a good job of getting alot of high end guys in hopes that a few pan out. instead of picking the Biggs, Gauthier or Schenns.. the apparent "safe" picks That's my favorite saying about those guys. they are forsure NHL players because they will always find a spot in the bottom 6.. |

I think that's part of the prospects ranking. The likelihood that they will see quality NHL minutes. It doesn't always mean the prospect pool is full of stars.
It was posted the Sens at one time had a top 5 group. Most of those players are now in the NHL full time, but none of them are really entering elite status with the exception of Mark Stone, maybe. Mostly just support roster guys.
Toronto has some real nice pieces. I wasn't impressed with Marner at the World Juniors, but he's a guy I think could turn into a legit player. Similar level to a Matt Duchene maybe. Nylander has legit talent. Will be interesting how his consistency plays out. |

I know I just laugh because i remember Biggs and Gauthier, when the Leafs picked them they were said to be low ceiling guys but "safe" picks because they are for sure NHLers because of their defensive game and size makes them guys that will for sure make it to the NHL as at the very least 4th line guys.. Theirs guys like that every year.. |

Marner...
Brown, Kapanen, Timashov, Leipsic, Dermott, Neilsen to name a few more.. im not saying they are going to light the world on fire, but they should all spend time in the NHL..
edit: add in Zaitsev, Johnson, Loov and an early first round pick and you have a very deep talent pool. |

Don't forget Carrick. And the Sens prospect and Soshnikov. And the Pens first rounder. And Valiev who makes his debut tonight. And Hyman.
Leafs dont have the best prospect pool right now but will soon if things keep going like this. They sure have one of the best and deepest in the league today. Just look at the Marlies and what they're doing. Time will only tell if it translates to the NHL but a coach like Babcock sure helps to improve the chances greatly. |

Don't get to hyped because of what the Leafs farm team is doing. It wasn't long ago Bigmhamton Senators won it all. |

It is frustrating. Seems like every decent player in the east has to get traded to the west in fear of playing them 3 times a year vs the 2 time they play the western teams. Seguin, spezza, Carter, and many more. Over time that just makes two different leagues in terms of skill. - cburgess
It's more so going west, but players come east too. TJ Oshie for example.
The issue is Western teams are committed to winning and are willing to spend the money to bring in players like that. until the eastern teams go to that length. Players will go where they have the best chance to win.
I think Washington did that this year and look at the results so far |

Was at the game last night. So much fun to watch all the loser Leaf fans in their Gilmour, Clarke, and Kessel jerseys yapping and chanting at the start. Then they sit there silently all game while their pathetic team loses again.
A bunch of lemmings that have the biggest mouths in the league, proudly wearing their blue merchandise but are too dumb to realize they cheer for the most pathetic franchise in sports.
The Leafs have NEVER made it to a Cup final when there were more than 5 other teams in the league. NEVER. That says it all. But the lemmings keep flocking out and act like they are the best team ever.
Which is more pathetic, the on-ice product or their fans? |

I'd say Ottawas on ice product is worse then the Leafs because we have the talent to be a playoff team but with this combination of players we don't have the will or the drive - which is much worse the. Just lacking talent. talent you can acquire, heart and will comes from within the team.
Every team has talent in this league, what separates the good from the bad is the will to win - Ottawa seriously lacks that with this team - so in terms of an on ice product, I'd say Ottawa is more pathetic because the players aren't Playing to win, they are playing to score, and not get into situations that met get them hurt.

did you see Hoffmans first touch of the puck yesterday, they get it half way down the boards into the zone, he's got guys streaking into the zone. Instead of just poking it into the corner and letting the group fight for the puck and muck, he fires a 0.01% chance of scoring shot to the far corner, it goes wide OF COURSE, and the leafs are coming back the other way with speed because all of our forwards and D are thinking we are about to set up in the zone.
Frigging drives me crazy.
Did you also see Bobby Ryan eating nachos on the bench last night, with the full cheese whizz cheese and the mystery meat goo ? Washed it back with a double double French vanilla. The Guys a leader. The Guys a difference maker. The Guys the American Alex Kovalev. Best player in practice. Best Player Ottawa has ever had to try so hard but not get involved. best player who does everything but make a difference. best player Ottawa has ever had to get demoted to the 4th one and think he's a mentor. best player Ottawa has had in practice. Best player to ever come in hot 3 months late. |
