I consider all three part of the Philly college sports scene.
If you're going to take a hard line on it, the only true Philly team is Temple as they are in the heart of the city. If St. Joe's were on the other side of the street (City Line Ave.), they'd be in Bala Cyncwyd, which is Delaware County, and 5 mins from Villanova. And while technically that is Philly by definition, in reality, it's the burbs.
BTW, I'm a Temple grad, but I root for all three! (unless they play Temple) - WhirlingDervish
Went to Temple grad school, and even before that rooted for all three (or any greater Philadelphia area school in pretty much any sport). I prefer Temple in any matchup, of course. But I have decided there's no way TU ends up in my will if they build a football stadium. What a horrible waste of capital.
As for Big East, the way things have shaken out they're better off in the AAC.

Tuesday's game is huge.
Kronwall is out.
Hope the Flyers come out ready to play. - Marc D
Yes. Win it in reg or Ot, and they're right there.. lose and it's a problem.. I am shocked that Toronto won last night's game in Detroit. holy favour.
As a side note, and not to jinx our playoff run, how funny would it be to knock Detroit out of the playoffs for the first time in 28 years as a sort of payback for 1997? I'd certainly like it! |

How far away from Villanova is it given the side of the street it actually is on? - Scoob
A 15 minute train ride. |

According to Google Maps it's about a 6.9 mile drive. Depending on traffic, you're looking at anywhere from a 10 to 20 min trip. |

Oh, I agree, but I just don't see him as being a #1 pick talent. I'm much less impressed by him than I was last year by Okafor, Jones, and Winslow. - Scoob
Really? I view him as a significantly better prospect than all of those guys. |

i know it was a SO loss, but i would love to get stats on how many games the flyers have lost directly before the carnival. i swear it seems like every year. - hammarby31
Had the same thought yesterday. Certainly in recent years. |

From a business standpoint, why would they want Temple in the Big East? It would cut into the media share and they would risk loosing recruits. Villanova did the right thing for themselves. - flyers2001
I don't understand this idea that they'd lose viewership if Temple became an elite program. Tbh, I think having two elite programs in the city would make things more interesting and viewership would probably increase for both teams. |

Not a chance haha. Absolutely no reason changing Temple's status would increase viewership for nova. |

I am enticed by the future defense...since the shootouts are not working I would go VDV, Manning and Schultz as my first 3 shooters and have Neuvy as the shootout goalie even when Mason is the starter - vejim
Mason was awful in the shootout...whether he likes the skills competition or not, you still have to give your best effort to help your team get the extra point. Especially on the second attempt, he was already backed into his net by the time the shooter was at the blue line! He needs to come out more and back in as the shooter gets closer and then maybe he'll give himself and the team a better shot at it! |

I sure hope they do! Not sure that would satisfy my need for revenge from 1997...I'd happily trade a Flyers cup from then for being knocked out of the playoffs this year. Especially considering the Red Wings won 2 more cups after that! |

I wouldn't call it great. Like Seton Hall, it's a fine school from which you can get a good education. |

it's a very highly ranked university. One of the top undergrad business school programs as well. Median starting salary upon graduation is something like 58-60k plus average 5-7k signing bonus. |

Never understood guys being chapped about Nova. Rollie's gone. So no one's trying to kill the Big 5 any more. - bodiva88
I tend more to be a St. Joe's guy as far as city teams go, which kinda makes me not like Villanova as much.
St. Joe's folks (I've got some undergrad credits from there) have a definite little brother thing going on with Nova. |

The only thing I can say about that is I do remember a lot of St Joes kids talking a lot of poop about villanova all the time when i was at nova. I don't think i ever heard any villanova people ever talking about st joes. Definitely an inferiority complex going on on their end. |

yeah, I'd rather have the cup as well, but I think it would be fun to send them packing this year. I would however prefer to see the rebuilding flyers knock out the trade the entire farm and go for it this year Pens. |
