I HAD TWO PIECES OF CHICKEN MARSALA WITH EXTRA MUSHROOMS, GARLICY SPINACH, GARLIC PARM MASHED POTATOES AND 2L OF WATER AS MY DRINK. I ATE THIS MEAL WITH A FORK AND KNIFE!

My mom never liked mushrooms and she made me chicken marsala growing up without them...this has kind of ruined my ability to order this meal from anywhere despite it being a fantastic dish

Didn't the Devils lose 19 straight shootouts at one point a few years ago? Amazingly their record is much better overall in shootouts.

If you had to guess the year the Flyers become a lifetime .500 shootout team, what would your guess be?

- PLindbergh31

the devils went 0-13 a couple of years back. absolutely kept them out of the playoffs.

let's see....we're 10 years in and -40ish (didn't look at the numbers before posting). at best, i'd say 15 years from now to get back to .500.

if they can flip the average and end up about +3-4 every year. there's literally zero reason to believe this will happen. it's not like they haven't had skilled players in the last 10 years.

Before 2000, the NHL endured what has now become known as the expansion era, in which an incredible seven teams were added to the League within a period of eight years.

I know a lot of people female dog and moan about expansion 'watering down' the league, but does a guy like MSL even have a career in the 2000's without those seven new teams? That's a 2x Art Ross, 6x All-Star, 3x Byng, Stanley Cup and Hart Trophy winner we could have missed out on.

Bob was there for the save but shooting it two feet over the net is kind of embarrassing.
- FloHaake

he crunched down, making himself small as usual, and left the top of the net. there was room under the bar. putting it through the uprights.....ugh.

There are a lot more players that... appeared in the NHL due to those seven teams a lot of fans would have rather done without.

They have been in 99 shootouts in 10 years (not counting 12/13) so they do about 10 shootouts per year. Let's assume they have an improvement of 20% every 2 years, which is fairly optimistic.

05/06-15/16 (assuming no more this year): 31-68
16/17: 5-5 (37-75)
17/18: 5-5 (43-79)
18/19: 7-3 (50-82)
19/20: 7-3 (56-86)
20/21: 8-2 (64-88)
21/22: 8-2 (72-90)
22/23: 9-1 (81-91)
23/24: 9-1 (90-92)
24/25: 10-0 (100-92)

Unrealistic, but a best case scenario.

No doubt, he's just the one that came to mind first.

There's more than enough all-world hockey players to populate 31 and 32 NHL teams, I'd bet.

Yet Detroit made it despite going 4-10. I'd also argue that LA's 27 regulation losses hampered their case, too. Make 3 of those losses wins and they're in.

That's true, it's just that the shootout has nothing to do with how good a team will be in the playoffs, and yet it can play a crucial role in determining if they make it. The Kings had two more ROW than the Jets last season, but Winnipeg were 7-6 in shootouts.

Hopefully 3 on 3 gets extended to seven minutes for 16-17 because there are still way too many shootouts this season.

How does expansion affect the cap? Do expansion fees figure into HRR creating a short-term spike in the cap? If an expansion team brings in less HRR than the average team pre-expansion, does the cap go down (same money spread amongst n+1 team)?

I'm all in favor of 3-on-3 until you win.

Ultimately, I'd like the playoff format for the regular season: play until there's a winner and the loser gets nothing. I understand it creates an unfair advantage for back-to-backs, but if that's the case, win in regulation.

I like the idea of 4v4 for 4 minutes or first stoppage after 4 minutes then 3v3 until 7 total minutes of overtime.

I don't think expansion fees are counted as HRR which is why it's so lucrative for the current owners.

So, in a nutshell, doesn't expansion ensure a temporary dip in the cap? It's hard to believe that a new franchise can bring in enough HRR to meet the media, when it really has to exceed the median due to fixed costs which are split amongst the n team (i.e. TV contracts).

With regards to that article, saying that hockey in Nashville has not worked is second only to saying the Flyers not having a goalie. Yes, it took some time, but that town is a legitimate hockey town, and has great fans.

With all the Ghost mania do we get Ivan Drago references when Provorov hits?

Yes, but is it fair to the bus drivers, concession workers, pilots, security, hotel workers, and hundreds of others. They make plans for it during the playoffs.
