It's not absurd for a fringe playoff team

How many times this year do you think a team has scored 2 goals with their goaltender pulled in the final minute to win a game?

I know Chicago has done it...but they are perfect and do everything right

Including his shootout saves last night, I believe Mason's save % this week is 0.951 (78/82). If anything, he will be the reason we make the playoffs.

How the hell did Columbus have 53 shots on goal??

Anyone else see the ref almost call the goal off before changing his mind? I think that greatly influenced the decision upstairs. I think there was no clear evidence based on the camera angles we saw, therefore they would go with what was called on the ice.
- moose_is_loose

Yep, I saw it too. Was a closer call from the ice then it looked to me I guess

I agree the call on the ice was probably the deciding factor. Will be telling how they respond next game after a deflating ending. This team is way more exciting then I expected them to be!

As for Koneckny, I wouldn't bring him up unless you believe they have a real chance and he is the difference maker. Which is hard to believe we could be in that situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it happened to us earlier in the season

I guess we can just chalk it up to Tortorella getting revenge for 2004.

This game (frank)ing hurt. Mason deserved better, would have been nice if the rest of the team had bothered to show up. Giving up 51 shots to a doormat like Columbus is simply inexcusable.

I seriously didn't even notice Boone Jenner was playing until a faceoff with 12 minutes left in the third. I actually remember thinking about you when I realized him...Then he goes and scores that goal and the shootout winner

Imagine if they miss the playoffs by one point?? Can you see that happening?

Mason deserved a shoutout. Really is a crime he got the SOL. Still can't understand why Simmonds blasted that slapper on the PP.

When it comes to pro sports in Philly I usually expect that kind of thing.

Yes.

But at the same time, I think the majority of fans didn't see them even making the playoffs or even coming close to making the playoffs this year.

Very true as I was one of those people. However, they are in the playoff race and what happened last night is still inexcusable.

I don't understand what he was doing on the ice with under two minutes to go. He's generally piss poor in the d-zone.

And then win the draft lottery and get Matthews.

Then when the camera pans to him he smirks and shrugs as if to say, "oh well, it was worth a shot".

DUDE! You are up by 2 goals with under 90 seconds to go in pretty much what should be a must win.. you have the PP and the puck with the opposing goalie out of his net, and you shoot the (frank)ing puck from your own zone?@!?!

Oh please... Arizona is getting the Matthews since Edmonton got McJesus. Like they won't fix it for Arizona after last year got them neither superstar in the making.

I normally love Simmonds play but last night the icing was a very selfish play. Also after he did it he had this "ho hum" look. Now I know they should still win but I thought that was piss poor attitude coming from someone who is a team leader.

Again I know that one play didn't cost the game. Just didn't like the play or the reaction after.

Also crazy to think that Giroux had won 19 of 32 faceoffs and then lost the three most important draws of the game in his own end. All three to that muppet Dubinsky. The draw after Simmonds iced it and they had the high stick goal. Two more draws in the defensive zone including the one on the game tying goal sequence.

Also, why do our d-men always lay on the ice?
