I normally love Simmonds play but last night the icing was a very selfish play. Also after he did it he had this "ho hum" look. Now I know they should still win but I thought that was piss poor attitude coming from someone who is a team leader.
Again I know that one play didn't cost the game. Just didn't like the play or the reaction after. - J35Bacher
right when he made that face I just had the feeling they would score at least 1 goal Bc we were acting like the game had already ended. We play too safe when we have leads in the game. Heck even the PP Simmonds drew for that slash... We put Streit out there when imo Jake should have been on. I rather push for that 3rd goal than sit back and let the team have their way. It happened against Detroit and Chicago and we walked away with a win. |

Very true as I was one of those people. However, they are in the playoff race and what happened last night is still inexcusable. - BiggE
the Flyers had a lead but I felt like they were losing...they just dont match up with certain teams historically |

It had nothing to do with match ups, they were consistently out worked all over the ice.

Between using Coots and Schenn in the shootout I am lost as to the usage, Simmonds was stellar last year, maybe punishment for taking that long shot-icing but all season he's hardly seen a shot, He was money last year for us in so's. |

It's just bad selections every time it seams. I liked Cousins use; he had a nice move, just misaimed. Gagner's was pointless. And Giroux dangled himself into running out of real estate. Sometimes I wish Giroux would simplify his shootout moves. Especially in a scenario where he could have ended the game. Schenn's 1 for 9 and Couts is 2 for 14. I don't get why we always turn to Couts. I would have gone Ghost or even Laughton over Couts. Heck even Ryan White after how great and confident he was playing in the 3rd. Just bad selections. Mason made too many stops for us not to get at least 1 in. |

I am ok with putting the 2 dmen later in games. That's actually smart to keep from a cheap shorthanded goal.
Not to make excuses but they did look tired. Looked like they had heavy legs and it was actually amazing they had a lead with how they were playing.
They got a point. Big game in Colorado with them missing Duchene and McKinnon. Also need to beat AZ. If they come away with 7 out of 8 points this road trip will be a success in my opinion. |

Pretty much sums it up. I guess two goal leads with a minute left are the worst kind to protect. |

To me, the biggest crime, is that Claude Giroux has raised his game this year (again) and he's gonna get ignored for World Cup. - johndewar
Ah, frank the WC. It's a dumb, worth nothing tournament. He and the rest of the Flyers need 100% focus on the Flyers. |

Blowing a 2 goal lead to a conference cellar dweller in the final minute is beyond absurd. - PLindbergh31
Yep. It's an indication that they're not quite around the corner yet.
That said, I didn't see the game. I was busy picking the winning team in my rotiss baseball league. I kept one eye on the box score though and based on the shot totals as the game progressed I imagined it as a game they had no business leading anyway and that it was just a matter of time before the walls caved in.

It's just a money grab for the league. Because they don't get anything from the Olympics, this way they can showcase players and get the revenue. I am sure they will eventually try to have the World Cup of hockey instead of sending players to the Olympics. This way they keep the money in house instead of risking players to injury without any rewards. |

Too small upfront too weak on the backend for my liking. Hope Morin gets a shot soon. |

Mason deserved a shoutout. Really is a crime he got the SOL. Still can't understand why Simmonds blasted that slapper on the PP. - arichardson22

Yep, I saw it too. Was a closer call from the ice then it looked to me I guess
I agree the call on the ice was probably the deciding factor. Will be telling how they respond next game after a deflating ending. This team is way more exciting then I expected them to be!
As for Koneckny, I wouldn't bring him up unless you believe they have a real chance and he is the difference maker. Which is hard to believe we could be in that situation. - coffee junkie
It always is. If there is no conclusive evidence to overrule the call on the ice, the call stands. |

Yep. They didn't play well at all. Mason was the reason they had the lead. He bailed the team out for 59 minutes, would have been nice for them to play the final minute and win the game. He also stopped 4 of 5 shooters in the shootout. Can't ask for better then that. |

I like how they look 5 on 5 and I'll give that credit to the coach because the players have had issues supporting one another in the past. However, with roughly 7 minutes left in the game, up 2 goals and on the power play, the Coach decides to become too cautious by removing Jake and adding Streit in his place, the Coach should be looking to end the game during an offensive opportunity. We should have barried them there. Schenn and Couturier ahead of Simmonds and Voracek in the shootout isn't good. Also Hakstol was too slow to get the right guys on to the ice for the 3 minute Power Play. With White coming out of the box and guys like Cousins and Gagner already on the ice, things were already jumbled the moment the PP began, which led to a slow start on the man advantage. |

Those 3 star selection things are so subjective, it's not even worth getting upset over. |

Lol... aren't those chosen just by the announcers anyway? Hell, they will usually give a player who has his first NHL goal the #1 star, even if someone had a 3 point night. |

Pretty much.
The game reminded me a bit of last Saturday, in that they managed the puck very poorly.

Chosen by a press member from the home city at the game. Sometimes it's broadcast people others it's paper or radio guys. |
