Thanks for jumping all over my opinion. - A_SteamingLombardi
Actually, that's what you did. I've just asked you not to comment on my posts for that reason, because if you don't actually want to have a thoughtful debate about it then what's the point of you chiming in? |

The difference is insulting people, everyone chiming in not with opinions or thoughts but with insults and bullpoop. Kind of reminds me of high school sometimes on here: it's not just one goof, his little minions have got to chirp in their two-cents, that jumping on people's opinions. Arguing an opinion means your bringing up points and counter points, drawing on facts and citing professional knowledge to support your opinion or point of disagreement. - neem55

Trevor Linden says other wise and I'm sure quite a few Canuck players from those years would agree. - Marwood
They tore the C from his chest and then traded him out of town. |

Right, well he played for two other teams that won and he was the captain of those teams. 6 cups. Now they have a trophy named after him to award people for leadership. I don't like Messier, but reality is that he lead his teams really effectively (except in Van, as we all know too well). |

That's what makes Messier such a great leader. That and taking Maki's retired number. |

Messier was an ass. He would sucker punch you, cross check you across the face or attack you when you are down like he did to Linden in game 6.
Being an idiot and a bully doesn't make you a great leader. Marchand won a cup and he is an ass also , as is C.Lemiux and Cooke |

All I said was "Ask Linden" I didn't realize it was attacking your opinion, you are the one who responded to it with a paragraph about how many people think Messier is a great leader, and I don't care what others said or think I was referring to Linden and your response to that was "I don't have his number"
Why don't you just ignore me. |

Toews has 3 cups if you are using that as a measure. |

I think him getting chosen to wear a letter for team Canada speaks to that ability too. But yes, I think if you're wearing a C when your team has won multiple cups, you're likely doing something right in the dressing room. |

I have worked for some great bosses who lead with respect.
I have also worked for bully bumholes.
Leaders can make you want to work with them , bullies don't. They will get results but it is not being a great leader. |

Jake does have a point though, Henrik could of just said he never saw the hint and left it there, doesnt matter on age you expect your teamates to have your back - phyllee
Thats not the Sedin way. They are honest and respectful. Quite frankly I would have said the same thing. Virtanens young. I get that. But dont be so smug at that age talking about your Captains remarks when it comes to something insanely stupid you did.

Messier without a great team behind him was just another great player except here.
Always thought he was an arrogant idiot or if wrong why is he not a GM or coach anywhere? He was a waste of money here with his overrated hype of greatness.
Him having a hand in trading TL along with Keenan did get us Bertuzzi & the Sedins eventually. Thats all he contributed here.
It was Leetch & Richter who beat us in '94 not Messier.
Now on to all these ppl claiming to be in the locker room & knowing all...
Spare us with your tabloid material & leave it for the Pratts etc.
Opinions r one thing & guessing a whole other matter. |

Down 3–2 in the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the rival New Jersey Devils, Messier confronted the New York media and publicly guaranteed a Game 6 victory. With fans and players on both sides reading the news headline, it then became a feat comparable to Babe Ruth's called shot and Joe Namath's Super Bowl III guarantee, and he backed it up by scoring a natural hat trick in the third period on an empty net goal with ESPN commentator Gary Thorne boasting, "Do you believe it?! Do you believe it?! He said we will win game six and he has just picked up the hat trick!" It helped the Rangers erase a two-goal deficit. The Rangers went on to win the series in a thrilling seventh game double overtime nail biter.
That was pretty (frank)ing impressive. |
