Bo Horvat had a 16 goal 24 assist 40 point season while Detroits Gustav Nyquist, their supposed next wave center/winger behind Zetterberg & Datsyuk, had 17 goals 26 assists 43 point .... just saying.
Bo had a good season despite the almost green jacket. |

Yes, no gm would say we don't want to make the playoffs this year .. we are just going to coast it. Saying we want to make the play offs and icing a play off capable team are two totally different things. They know a rebuild is here with the canucks, they aren't stupid. Fans need to be patient. - anavar
True, but I think a GM can be realistic in expectations.
"There's the possibility that we might not make the playoffs this year," the Wings general manager said at the Detroit Sportscasters Association luncheon at Hockeytown Cafe. "But nobody can run and hide from you any longer in this league. You can't stockpile players. You're constantly tweaking. You're constantly changing."
Ken Holland, January 2013
Of course, the Wings went on to make the playoffs but at least Holland was being honest with his team's fan base. The majority of fans ain't stupid and they can see the quality of the roster. This ra-ra attitude from management seems hollow sometimes. |

This is the troubling part for me. I can't see how one ( not you) can complain about this roster and want Burrows and Hamhuis back . It has been a leaking product since 2012. |

Again true. But letting Burrows play out his contract when the coach has already publicly stated that he's a team leader is not going to delay this rebuild. If you are going to fire the gun pick a target that has no value rather than the one that has some use to the team.
I couldn't give a poop about hamhuis. |

Why on earth would we buy iut burrows or Higgins. Our team will suck again next year I don't want contracts in the books a few years from now to save salary cap next season and beyond. Let them play iut the contracts either in the minors or here and the entire cap hit is gone after this season makes way more sense to me |

I'm thinking along the same lines. Let's get Miller the (frank) out of here and give it to Markstrom. Get rid of Edler and go for another top three pick. Why not?
Burrows ain't the problem. That 4th line spot and occasional PK time isn't going to delay any prospect's development. In fact, having him on this team will probable help that development. |

That isn't our problem. Let the aquaman worry about that. He's going to get a chunk of that expansion money so use that to ride out the storm. |

The fans here or anywhere didn't seem to be complaining about Hutton JV JM or Tryamkin.
I did hear a lot of B1tching about Higgins Hamhuis Burrows Prust Weber Bart Vey .
Yes I know I stuck up for Vey. It was others complaining. Why do you want to bring any of them back ? 20 mil in cap space and your answer is that? |

I watch the product so it is my problem. You have 20 mil in cap space and you can't find a better upgrade on Burrows?

Nope. Just Burrows.
I want the defense core to be big and mean, so Hammy, Weber, Bart, Edler are out.
Vey is replaceable.
Higgins can go back to The AHL.
I don't know who Prust is.
Miller can play somewhere else.
That's eight players gone from this roster to start with. Not bad. |

You don't put any merit in what WD said this season? Is it irrelevant?
Is it all about the wins and losses next season or are we talking developing our young players to be consistant NHLers, future team success, and hopfully a Stanley Cup under this regime?
I don't think it's about finding an upgade on Burrows. Why does that matter right now if this rebuild is a lengthy process? |

Sorry I don't see the value of 4.5 mil for a slow guy that scores 9 goals.
I would rather see that cap spent on 20 goal scorerMatt Martin who has the most hits in the league.
There are about 20 better options than Burrows and thankfully management seems to agree.
Thanks for the career AB good luck |

As long as he drafts well, that's the lifeline of any and all NHL franchises....when he's canned the next guy can fill in the blanks. - LeftCoaster
Say they bring in someone like Mcphee who has more business acumen. The Pete Carroll & John Schneider approach. JB Is more comfortable scouting anyway, Mcphee works the phones and closes deals. |

I know. We aren't in the locker room so we don't see how players contribute in other ways. Like being team leaders and coming prepared and ready to battle every night. Hope our prospects learn to play that way cause they've already been called out by their captain. |

The captain and his brother have like two goals in the last 10 games. Too lazy to look up.

Save the cap space for when we will be a bit more competitive maybe the year after next. I just don't see the point in adding taking away cap space from future teams when we start to turn the corner. Burrows is a perfect 4th liner for 1 year on a team that won't make the playoffs. Run these contracts out now. Don't use the cap space we have with long term contracts. The year the twins come.off the books Tavares is a free agent as well. |

Wrong . Burrows is not a great fourth liner. How many fourth liners have a cap hit of 4.5 mil. |

Cap hit doesn't matter we have so much space it hurts. He's posture and wants to be here. If we had a contending team absolutely buy him out and upgrade him. But a cheaper 4th liner is going to do nothing for this team other then burrows contracts will go another year after this at 1 mill. Stupid to buy him out with the state of our team
If we buy iut biggy burr and miller that's 5 mil basically of wasted space 2 years from now. Plus lu is on there it's idiotic. Just get it over with aND it's done after next year if we lave them alone |

"We knew this year we were gonna take a step back but try and be competitive enough to land one of those last wildcard spots" - Jim Benning
So please explain the difference between the two quotes. To me he says we might not make the playoffs but we hope to. Isn't that what Holland just said in your quote?
I'm not a Benning apologies but let's call a spade a spade.
