He should be wearing the A now IMO, good D man and no, he won't traded. - SABRES 89
He is a solid #3 D-man. Can play on the top line in a pinch, but shouldn't be there long term unless he improves a touch more.

Just a quick question if Tampa lost in the 2nd could we trade for stamkos rights then ? - gerbe75pts[/img]
We could trade for his rights today if we wanted
Stamkos would have to approve the deal though
And it probably doesn't make sense
You'd think he'd only accept a trade to where he wanted to sign...
So if that's us,
Then why not just wait till july1 & not give anything up? |

Theres a chance Stamkos could play in the playoffs Tampa wouldn't trade his rights until they were eliminated...if at all!
I wouldn't mind trading for his rights because if you get him locked up before the draft you know one less position you need to fill. |

Good points
Idk if Stamkos would approve a trade anywhere though
He might wanna go visit a few teams before he makes a decision
And that can't happen till july1 |

From the Sabres standpoint a deal before the draft & free agency allows you to plan better, as certain acquisitions are no longer realistic in the Stamkos scenario (Nash, etc). We would immediately be on a long-term budget, and that would likely determine what dominoes follow. |

IMO I think we would have a good chance at grabbing Nash, the Rangers may want him gone from what I have been reading so they can free up money. Only question is............. does he waive to come here ? |

I would think playing with Jack and Sam would be super appealing to Nash. However, if we land Stamkos I think this goes out the window. |

Stamkos is the number 1 priority as he should be, anything else doesn't matter. |

Article I found was dated 2014, but it was nearly a full week before FA opened |

2018 contracts (just some guesswork):
ROR: 7.5
Eichel: 8.0
Reinhart: 6.5
Stamkos: 10.0
Kane: 6.0
Ennis or Equal: 5.0
Bottom 6: 13
Bogo: 5.2
Risto: 5.0
McCabe: 2.5
Pysyk or equal: 2.5
ELC Dman: 1.0
6/7: 2.0
Lehner: 4.5
backup: 1.0
Extras: 1.8
Rough add up: 81.5 M.....The cap should be extremely close to that by then. Hopefully this is roughly accurate. |

Me too, but I have relegated my view that the only way we beat them there with Brady is if he is in the stands watching...til then, nope not gonna happen. |

Stamkos will likely be more, but I also think Eichel will be less. I picture Eichel around 5-6 for a short term, ending at his last RFA season, THEN getting paid (likely 10M plus), Reinhart would be in the same boat and thus lower than the 6.5 you mention. Ristolainen perhaps a bit higher, but not much (5.5?).
Good calls though, I wrote up something similar recently as well. |

My guess is, by the time the draft rolls around, Murray will know if landing Stamkos is all but a signature away. |

Technically trades can happen right now for any team (since the trading deadline), but the player cannot play in the playoffs (or anytime past the trading deadline).
I think trading for his rights would be a waste because he waited this long to see his "worth" and I doubt he would sign with team that traded for his rights. I did look it up, still can only be 7 year deal, so thats out.
Stamkos is well aware Sabres are interested in him and will make an offer, so trading for his rights should not be done. Also, I doubt TB would trade his rights, holding out the possibility he would consider to resign before July 1st (because he could still get 8 years if with TB).

My rationals started with 89's 10m as a low.. Eichel, using a few FA years, I think Murray would do anything and everything to get a max term on him. Reinhart is anyones guess really. He's been tough to project. All I know is, we need him for a good long while. |
