IMO I think we would have a good chance at grabbing Nash, the Rangers may want him gone from what I have been reading so they can free up money. Only question is............. does he waive to come here ?
- SABRES 89

Other question would be, do we even want Nash? He seems to get silent in the playoffs, not someone I want on my team.

My rationals started with 89's 10m as a low.. Eichel, using a few FA years, I think Murray would do anything and everything to get a max term on him. Reinhart is anyones guess really. He's been tough to project. All I know is, we need him for a good long while.
- TheSabresTaco

I agree that it would be nice, but I wonder what's more cost-effective - a short bridge to then still have him as an RFA again, and THEN the mega-deal, or an 8x8 now.

3x6 then 12x8 = 144M and ends when he's 35 years old
8x8 then another contract, say 7 years, would end when he's 36 but in 10 years (when that 8x8 is done), the high end guys will be making well over the 11M that's current top end.

He's not worth what he would be in a trade.

He had 2 years where he was completely invisible, other than that he's been fine.

He has 7 goals and 18 points in his last 24 playoff games. I'll take that production

Can someone tell me the steps to paste an image file in here.
I'd like to show the Sabres Roster with Salary Projections I did...which includes Stamkos and other assumptions...would love for some feedback.

I figure in year 3, he's basically your best and franchise player. Do you give your best player a bridge deal? I mean, I agree with your assessment, it looks great on paper. But the human factor is a big consideration for high profile players. Look at Stamkos, feeling a lack of respect in Tampa, as they're toying with their franchise center. Murray and everyone else sees what's going on. Does Murray learn a little on how to treat franchise players when it comes to Jack's new contract? I'm going to guess yes.

Yea I guess that is better than I thought. (should have looked it up, lazy).

I would like that too, but I still dont know that I want him. The Rangers window is closing fast (with the KING in goal), so no way they trade him for picks or something. Not sure what he value would be, but his high cap hit lowers his value a bunch.

Really doubt this happens and I hope it does not. I do feel like after (or at) the draft we do another O'Reilly type deal. Getting a 24 year old guy where we trade a bunch of prospects. If we do get someone like Stamkos, Yandle? , Vesey (I know, August 15th), and our first rounder, some bodies will need to be moved.

I guess my bigger "fear" is that max contract now and then another after would make him (hockey) old when that 2nd one is done. That's 18 years from now.

Stamkos is the number 1 priority as he should be, anything else doesn't matter.

Side argument: Is there a point to trading for a guy's rights who will become a free agent that every team will want? He will have numerous suitors and getting his rights doesn't mean he has to sign...is there any point to trading for them? (I'm under the impression we can't offer him 8 years even if we had the rights)
- RhinoFan

You also get to sign him for 1 more if you sign him before UFA day

I'm 90 % sure dd always talks about this I could be so wrong

Stamkos is priority #1 (because Risto is RFA), but if Sabres dont land him, it will be fine, might take another year or two to go deep in playoffs. I still think we have a playoff team next year, either way.

I have said this a few times, I feel Nash could be our version of Marian Hossa.

Big two way winger, not expected to carry a team, finds a role and does it well.

No, this is not true. Looked it up in CBA a while ago. Must be traded by trade deadline.

This may be true, but $7.8 mil / year for 2 more years? That is scary amounts of money. Maybe NYR can eat salary to make it happen?

Thank you to all who responded to my question about posting an image...hope this works!

Hopefully you can actually see it, and It isn't to small to view.
But several weeks ago I decided to do a bit of work to prove to myself that signing Stamkos to a mega deal would be detrimental for the Sabres in the "out" years...say years 5, 6, 7.

Here is my analysis which proved to me, to my chagrin that GMTM should go all in on him ... this analysis assume a growth in the Cap of $2.75 per year, which is what next seasons increase is expected to be...
would love feedback and discussion...

Also Hossa is $5.275 / year, so much cheaper, but deal through 2020-21? Wow, Chicago will be in a world of hurt with him shortly (37 years old right now and all that extra playoff hockey on his body..)
