Congrats Jets fans!
Happy you got 2nd after Toronto. Mathews and Laine will both be great players. From what I've been hearing, its actually hard to decide which player will be better. I'm betting Toronto takes Mathews, in part because he's seems to be the consensus #1, but also because he's that potential #1 C we've been needing since Sundin. Hard to pass that up despite Laine's possible upside.
I've heard some call Laine a poor man's Ovie. Considering Ovie is this generations best goal scorer, a poor man's version is still a player that would be welcome on any team...
Whatever the order, both teams are leaving the first round of the draft with a great prospect. |

holy poop, those lines are impressive. Plan the parade? Naah jokes aside, this should make you, with the current core already in place, a contender for the play offs spot in years to come. |

Congrats! Laine could turn out to be best player from this years draft. Nothing to take away from Matthews but Laine is really unique player. Don´t shoot the messenger but some scouts see some Mario Lemieux in him. |

I think that's a good argument. However, Matthews to the Leafs is a no brainer, since the Leafs have needed a number one prototypical centre for about 10 years. Laine seems to be a perfect fit for a team that needs a pure scoring winger. Winnipeg and Toronto are the winners of the draft, so far.

As a Leafs fan, I wouldn't have been in the least bit upset with #2 overall. Laine is gonna be a beast, and he's one of the youngest in the draft. Even if it's under a year of extra development time it still means a lot at this age. |

I would be curious to hear from others whether by using a combination of trades and picks, getting the pair of Finns would be worth it? |

It's interesting as Jets have 22nd and 36th overall too. So those plus Dano back to Columbus? |

Jets need a top 4 LHD so going for both fins probably not worth it.
Have prospects, 22nd and 36th picks and maybe Trouba? To find top LHD. Or stay put and grab some D with those picks. |

I hope the Leafs take Mathews as planned, and we get Laine. We have a couple decent centres in Scheifele and Little, but we have always been missing that one dude with the one-timer cannon. Laine is exactly what our pass-first PowerPlay needs.
Now please make Mark Stuart the Moose captain, waive Peluso and trade Thorburn for absolutely anything, no offer too low. |

Happy for the Jets and their fans.
One of Laine or Puljujarvi is going to be a cornerstone for the franchise. |

That's the thing though, if you've already got a bunch of guys in the system/on the team, you don't neccesarily want to be adding bodies, you want high end talent. It's definitely worthwhile to trade up... But I don't see a viable package for #3 overall.
If I'm Winnipeg and picking 22, is swing for the fences with DeBrincat. |

Mark Stuart Captain????? Are you kidding? Pinches and gets caught way too many times , slow. If he is in our top 6 next year then we are not going to make a jump that some think. He's done. |

sad day for hockey, since his career will stagnate into nothingness just like Sundin. Sad day for matthews, he looked he was about to cry when they asked him and he said he had "mixed emotions"... |

Great day to be a Jets fan.
Realistically we need to trade some of our smaller forwards now, or let them season 1 more year in the A and get the most for your return, either way we have an abundance of middle 6 forwards... LHD would be nice, maybe Anaheim has something to offer us.
Our top 9 ( If Thorbs stays on the 4th line PLZ!) Looks great.
If they can manage to keep Stu out of the top 6 that would be swell. Postma - Melch looked like a capable bottom pair, With Trouba - Buff being and elite pairing, and Enstrom - Myers a capable middle 4.
The young guys ( Bottom 6 ) looked good on the PK when Stu wasn't on the ice, and Helle in net should atleast put us middle of the pack on PK.
With Connor, and Laine shot our PP should see a boost!
Those 2 upgrades alone will put us in a fight for the playoffs we were only 5 wins away this past year.
Going to be a great season for the Jets, should be very exciting. |
