If I could get two picks in the top 6 I might rethink the BPA philosophy. Would be so nice to get two players of equal talent that complement each other. Basically rebuild your 1st line if you go with forwards.
That 4th pick seems like a beauty. What would it take for edm to bite? - bloatedmosquito
Sbizza and a 2nd should cover it. |

I'm excited to see what happens. I'd like to see us find a way to pick up another first rounder but without giving up our 5th. - WhatTheNuck
Well we do know JB has plans to be busy.
Will be interesting times ahead hopefully. |

waiting for the weathernetwork to report a huge microscope over Rogers Arena is the cause of this little bit of heat we have been feeling around here lately.

Columbus is fairly close to the cap for next year and still have to re-sign Seth Jones. So why don't we offer to help them out?
To Vancouver:
Scott Hartnell 34 LW $4.75MM
David Savard 25 RD $4.25MM
3OA for 2016
To Columbus:
Linden Vey 24 C $1.1MM (qualifying offer)
Andrey Pedan 22 LD $900K (qualifying offer)
5OA
Torts Compensation (2nd Rounder 16/17/18)
Columbus can justify this as only moving down 2 spots in the draft while picking up over $6MM in cap space, getting younger, gaining another really good offensive center, plus their 2nd pick back. (Softens the blow a bit if they end up firing Torts sooner rather than later).
Canucks move up two spots in the draft and get a RHD with some offensive upside. They also get a bigger body to add to their forwards who's first name isn't Milan and comes at least $1MM cheaper than the oft-mentioned neanderthal. |

Now THIS is something worth discussing.
IMO we would have to add a bit more, maybe McCann instead of Vey. |

Considered it, but apparently there's a moratorium on suggesting McCann trades atm. Besides, Vey already plays first unit PP for the Canucks and is often one of his coach's go to guys when they're down by a goal in the last minute.
McCann's going to be an AHL'er next year. Wouldn't be fair to Columbus not to give them the more experienced player. (Not to mention that he's a former Medicine Hat Tiger. That alone is a big plus.) |

Hansen might get it done, but we can't go any higher on the payroll otherwise the deal doesn't make sense. |

I want the no trade or no movement to end before tdl of the last year of all contracts. would love the league and nhlpa to agree to this so it will be easier to move players on expiring contracts. make tdl a bit more exciting. |

That doesn't save CBJ any cap space at all. Wouldn't achieve their objective of being able to pay their #1D man what he'll be looking for on a long-term deal. Likely a $5MM bump from what he's getting now unless they do a bridge, which doesn't make a lot of sense in this situation when you're fully committed to the player. Might as well spend a bit more now to save on some of his UFA years. |

True but it leaves Savard as another bargaining chip to Edm or Ari etc.
Take on 7m n move 4.75m in a 34yr old forward & get a young C.
All 3 contracts at good value for a salary dump albeit at the cost of 3OA.
Don't wanna take in too much salary in Van. |

As of right now Columbus has no room to even sign Jones to the money he will be asking for. They will definitely have to do something about it.
I'd be interested to hear an offer but very skeptical to take on the term some of those contracts carry. Tyutin and Hartnell would have to move for sure if their 3rd pick is involved imo.

I read an article on him yesterday and how pumped he was to be a Canuck. He said the biggest relief was talking to UND head coach (who was an assistant coach for the Canucks AHL Manitoba Moose back in the day) about NOT signing and developing further at UND. Benning and Linden were very encouraging and even brought up some players who really matured after spending 2 seasons in NCAA - Oshie, Toews, etc. He also went on record to say that he has spoken to Drake about how good the staff and facilities are in Vancouver and thinks he has a really good chance to go far in his hockey career with the Canucks. From what I read, he is VERY proud to be a Canuck. - Codes1087
Hopefully he signs next year. |

I am pretty confident he will. I am sure he only wants to spend one more year at UND. In the article, he said that he wanted to turn pro strictly so that his mom did not have to work two jobs (as his Dad is battling parkinsons and can't work), but said in the end, for him and his future, it was best to do one more year and help his Mom out financially after he turns pro. |

Columbus needs to clear $6MM-$8MM in space to be able to sign their marquis player. They don't need Hansen or Sbisa. Jones made Savard expendable and they have other young guys in their system who could replace him.
Canucks need a larger body in their forward mix and a top 4 RHD. That and moving up two spots in this year's draft plus giving up one of their better D prospects are why they take Hartnell's lousy contract off their hands. The Canucks will be able to afford to buy it out next year or the year after once Miller's off the books and the dust settles from Higgins and Burrows. |
