I'm really hoping we can land tkachuk, he's been my realistic choice for months.. I won't be disappointed with dubois at all but players from the Q always scare a little. Especially the way he's shot up this season. Unless a team blows us away I'll take the quality over quantity..

Tkachuk horvat boeser

Baerstchi mcann virtanen

Things could be worse I'd say

I second this, especially the concern about the q.

Dubois shot up mainly because he played C this year which is huge upside not a draw back.

I have the same concerns with inflated stats on Tkachuk because of who he has played wih this year.

Horvat, McCann and Virt are being traded. No top 6 potential

I'd be happy with either as well. Slight edge to Dubois imo. I still feel our biggest issue is defence now and in the future. Need to really shake things up even if that means trading someone like Tanev. I think Larsen has a KHL out clause like Tryamkin so I'd be interested to see what kind of impact he makes in TC. Only way we improve is through some kind of trade and I only see Hansen and Tanev as moveable and worth something.

You believe our need for D outweighs our need for scoring? I couldn't disagree more

Majority of his points were secondary assists.

He didn't better with Marner than Domi did.

Scoring comes from the D as well don't forget.

Crosby, Mackinnon, Drouin, Marchand and Bergeron might have something to say about this
- Codes1087

Lol well obviously not all Q players but it's a known concern with the Q being able to translate into the NHL style game

Yup for sure. And like I said I'll be perfectly happy with him. I've just been a fan of tkachuk for awhile and think he's the better player.

Tkachucks majority of his point totals came from secondary assists this year. Are you more worried about Dubois being able to translate his game to the NHL from the Q, or Tkachuk's inflated stats playing on a powerhouse line on the knights?

Fair enough. Either one I would be happy with which is why I am less concerned about being 5th than I initially was. No matter what we get one of the two unless we draft a D man and I think it's a stretch at 5th.

It's a toss up at this point but I'd give Tkachuk the edge currently. Dubois interested me more because of how well he transitioned to C and that was the huge reason he exploded so well this season. And he did it without playing with anyone that special.

A better way to look at it would be Tkachuk being the safe choice and Dubois being a higher risk but higher reward type guy.

Both are equally concerning, which is to say not that much for me. Second assists can be tricky - maybe he made a great pass/play and the goal was scored on the following rebound? or Marner overpassed on his set up (which is very possible given the talent on that line) and while the Q has had the bad rap of being a generally weaker league it hasnt stopped many players from succeeding. I look at Giroux more so of an example than Crosby, Mackinnon since he was drafted with lower stature and has proven to be a physical NHLer that produces

I like Dubois simply because he is a center. But if we are looking for a LW over Center(no idea why we would) I would take Tkachuk.

I think this is very fair. I like Tkachuk and I would definitely be happy with a top line LW, but I am also very nervous for the future after Hank leaves and who our 1C will be.. Very tough call to make.

you know what else is common between them? They have all had concussion issues. The run and gun style of Q makes them more susceptible to concussions in NHL. They are still great players but the longevity is just not there.
That said. I would still do BPA regardless of league, position, or positional need.

Vantel posted a link in the last thread from Bob Mckenzie, basically saying how much better of a pick Tkachuk would be over Dubois. I have had the sense that Mckenzie is not as high up on Dubois as all the other scouts. Questions why he has been between LW/C by his coaches.

I simply named the top 5 players that I could think of who came from the Q.. I am not quite sure how I feel about lumping 5 top line players together with concussions and automatically relate that to lack of self-awareness that was not taught in the QMJHL...

Well true, there is nobody to replace the Sedins...hell, they aren't even first line players anymore. Benning recognizes that first line talent trumps all other organizational needs.

Exactly. Regardless, being 5th makes us not have to choose between them potentially and if Edmonton keeps 4th I see them taking Tkachuk.

He didn't become a blue chip prospect after playing with Marner. He has been one for a long time. He is an excellent prospect. Marner benefis from playing with Tkachuk just as much as Tkachuk benefits from Marner
