Any player trades or UFA's must fit the profile JB is working on.
25-28yr olds with proven talent we r lacking. Sutter was a start.
Drafting & developing is currently well underway & the way of the future.
Need solid UFA's to help the kids reach their potential.
After the Sedins Hansen Edler Tanev Dorsett it gets scary.
Like it or not trading vets simply for picks is blowing it up & thats not happening.
Need the vets & smart UFA signings to insulate the kids & let them progress in an environment they can succeed instead of the Oiler model. |

A few months ago I think Yzerman would have happily taken the 5th overall for Drouin - RonPielep
His demands were much higher than that. No deal. |

One thing Benning came out and said is they will target teams up against the cap to see if they can get some lowball deals. Rangers are a team like that, and they have some good D - VANTEL
We r primed to do that this offseason & the next year or 2.ππ»ππ» |

And what pick is that & what guarantee do u give? ππ
Never knew picks panned out so easily.
JB didn't want picks for Hammer so why would he want the same for Edler.
How do u get around his NTC? - Nighthawk
It is always difficult talking to you because you don't seem to read before you reply.. I said it would be hard to get him to waive. No pick is ever guaranteed. If we sold the farm to get Matthews, he isn't guaranteed. But having an extra asset for when we are ready to compete again is worth more than not having it. If it takes us 5 years to compete, will we still want Edler on our blue-line? We don't even really want him there now. We just have no better options. hammer will be serviceable for 1-2 years when(hopefully) Hutton/Tram are ready to step into his/Edlers shoes. With any luck, the pick we get for Edler(I'm thinking 15-25) will be ready or almost ready. The trouble is getting him to waive, which he likely won't. But we got Bieksa AND Hammer to be willing to waive, and they are just as, if not more, stubborn than he is. |

Not difficult at all to talk to me. Your post was so vague i asked questions.
My problem is u think moving a proven top 4 D on speculation is wise.
I prefer hearing who might come back other than a pick with a number attached to it. |

I have said several times that if we trade Edler, sign Hammer as a stop gap to help bring the youngins along. Nobody coming back unless we need to take salary to do so, and get more as a result. |

Trading away players like Edler with a NTC is not easy & better to force him near the TDL. Creating a hole on D in the offseason is going backwards without a replacement. I don't see any replacement around that can be got cheaper unless Hammer. That said we lose even more offense which we already lack. I've repeatedly posted an OS on a Lindholm or Vaatenen is my course of action & that frees us up to make moves as in an Edler if successful. Til then he stays til we get an NHLer not a future pick.
For me a 1st & 3rd is a fine price to pay. |

Accidental report, trying ot hit comment button. sorry.
I think Hutton will improve his offense total from last season by a decent amount, and Larsen will put up some decent numbers. I agree losing Edler would be a big loss to us. Problem is that when we are ready to compete we will be saying good bye to him. As far as getting him to waive, the only shot you have is to appeal to his competitiveness. If he just want to status quo, doesn't care about a chance to succeed, he will stay and never leave. If he wants to win, tell him he won't do it here(he knows this is true) and ask him where he thinks he has the best shot to do so, try to get more than one team. Hopefully one with a pick between 15-20. Edler is nto stupid, he knows this is his last contract as a Canuck, just like it will be with Hammer if Edler is still here. Will he retire when it is over, or move somewhere else? We don't know, even he doesn't most likely. But it is something that he probably thinks about at this point in his career. |

He still has the country club entitlement from the old core, how did that work with Hamhuis and Vrbata? Any UFA coming in needs to agree to a new set of rules that allow management some flexibility. Hopefully Miller is pissed off enough to waive as well. I hear SoCal calling |

Source for this country club entitlement?
Hamhuis is certainly not a floater but u wrap him up in the same boat as Vrbata. As for a UFA JB makes an offer like it or not |

If it is only 2 years then yes. I would even put a clause that in final year at TDL if we are not a playoff team it becomes limited and he has to give a list of 5-10 teams. |

Why would you keep the oldest part of the core?
I like the forwards. Adding the #5 and a good UFA or two can set up a very nice competitive forward group. - VANTEL
Re. bringing back Hamhuis, I don't mind seeing him walk but JB keeps bringing him up to the media. When JB spoke the other day, I don't think he was even asked about Hamhuis (maybe I should go back and listen to it again), and JB started talking about Hamhuis...
I guess the benefit of bringing back Hamhuis, on a short term contract, is he could could put off the need to have Pedan slotted in or someone else the club may think isn't ready for a full time spot. Pedan or whoever could be traded for a player or draft pick. I want to see Pedan get his shot here but wonder what his value would be to another club? Similar situation to what TInordi was seeing Montreal?
I'd almost rather see Sbisa moved instead but Pedan hasn't shown he can bring that physical game consistently yet. Feck it, just move Sbisa and free up the cap space. |

I don't want to campaign . It's out of my control. I hope we see newer better players.
