Kind of my point. Either they make enough of a difference to drag you in, or they just teach the kids the right way to approach the game.

What doesn't happen though, is that young teams learn that losing is acceptable.

- golfingsince

Losing shouldn't be acceptable but call me pessimistic but I see it as inevitable (especially if you want to revuild).

One thing Carol mentioned in a posting the other day. Team Canada's young D really looked up to Tanev for Mentorship.

Nothing wrong with moving Burrows and bringing in a bigger tougher better scoring Brouwerthat has a ring and can mentor.

This is a soft team . Some playoff toughness could go a long way and only cost 500 k a year more.

- VANTEL

You need to make the playoffs in order for playoff toughness to matter. We won't make the playoffs for another 3 years minimum.

I hear ya.

I'm just tired of having to cross my fingers on a 20+ pick. You can always find the diamond in the rough but it's hard to business plan that.

- RealityChecker

We've never had a Jim Benning drafting for us, hopefully that's the difference. Although I think they miss again next year, unless Benning knocks it outta the park this summer.

It is inevitable, but doesn't mean it's acceptable. I believe there is a difference and that decides wether you lose for 3 years or up to 10 years.

I was really happy with the bruins 3 picks last season.
- thundachunk

Ya what was that? easily could've drafted two of those kids later if he'd have traded down.

I'd be surprised. However, if we do I'd say we miss the next 3 years. Some teams are trending up and we aren't one of them.

playoff toughness? Just gets back to me thinking they are not a playoff team so I don't understand the push to sign players that would give short term help.

And I'm not sure about ufa's who sign with rebuilding teams. To me it smells of a cash grab. Brower being from here may be different but ufas are generally overpaid especially those just coming off playoff success.

Keep the cap space for when you really need it or when some team is desperate for a cap dump.

I hate when someone points to the Oilers as the definitive case study.

Lots of teams have gone through prolonged losing/tanks. The last 5 cups went to 2 of those teams.

A tank or high picks doesn't automatically give you a contender but it increases your odds. You still need to make smart picks, trades and signings obviously.

However, high picks will have a ripple effect throughout. The Oilers have been sh! T but they still have those prospects/assets to trade.

We have now three top ten picks , how many more do we need before we say we are no longer rebuilding.

I don't want a bottom 10 pick next year . We have three already. I want a team next year that wins a round of playoffs. Not just make the playoffs , win one round.

I know that old man Burrows and Hamhuis won't get me there.

This team needs a few players like Ward , Martin Brouwer or McGinn. Andrew Shaw even better.

That's 9 teams, without including the Kings that I think will be better than us. Also....Jets.

That's another reason why I want a tank. Forget the top 5 pick. Benning gets Hugh picks in every round.

And just b/c I want to poke the bear (the bear being you), that's why it's frustrating watching Benning give picks away. If you're a master drafter, keep the draft picks dummy!

We are more than fine with cap space. After next year Burrows and Miller come off for 10.5 and the following year Sbisa and the Sedins come off for another 17 mil

They really need to get some quality defence to move forward. They've gotta be so much harder to play against.

When teams like the Hawks, Ducks, Sharks, Kings, Blues start trending down then we'll be on our way up......trying to beat the Oilers.

If the season started today definitely . We don't know the roster yet. Who is playing second line LHF ? Burrows Tkachuk or Sven? Who plays with the Sedins.

Definitely right now you have that list correct.

Yup. Exactly. It's not just about the Canucks. It's also about the other teams and how they are tending.

And making the playoffs will probably be a quick 1 and done.

It pisses me off when he wastes picks in trades, that said, he's walking a fine line with trying to compete and draft well at the same time...it's a difficult task.

We draft 5th, a guy not even projected to make the league next season. The Jets draft 2nd, so likely Laine.

We have decent goaltending and we still give up more goals than most teams. We're like a pooptier version of the Habs without Price or PK.

That's what I'm salivating about.

The team has an opportunity to really shape a brand new team. There is no need to force things or spend money just b/c you have it.

Be patient and the team will have a brand new core starting to develop and the cap space yo sign more than 1 impact ufa. Plus if the prospects are developing like hoped, it becomes a better destination for high level free agents.
