Why? I like their lineup. How could you not like:
Pavelski
Burns
Hertl
Couture
Donskoi
Jones
I would kill to have guys like Pavelski and Couture on the canucks. - bloatedmosquito
Not a fan of the Sharks - especially Jumbo Joe and Sally Couture. |

Not what I want, but what I expect.
Benning has already said on the radio I believe that they are trying to resign Hamhuis. - belcherbd
And why not? perhaps he's lost a bit of a step but he's still a quality defender in my opinion, who can play in pretty much any scenario. Throw in his mentoring abilities and I think it should be a no brainer to bring him back for at least a couple of more years.
On a bit of a side-note, I'm surprised to see people so eager to trade McCann. The guy is still basically a kid (19 years old for gawd sakes!) but he's already made an impact and had a fairly successful NHL campaign. He's got a wicked shot, all around skill, and puts in a solid effort in every night. All he needs to do is bulk up an get a little more experience and it's obvious that he is a top 6 forward.
Why make a lateral move (unless it's part of a significant package) when we have this young talented kid locked up who will be a solid asset for years to come? Canucks fans are frustratingly notorious for essentially looking at change for the sake of change, and I'm glad that cooler heads prevail in JB and TL. Let the kid develop for a few years just like every other star that is in a team's system |

Mentor baby - VANTEL thank you...xmas in may, cool.
I wonder what gully can do in that position....the D was tough in dallas when he was HC, tough to play against... whether that was him or not I dont know....but anything would be an improvement at this point....couldnt get any worse on the zone exits lol. And gully is very clever. Maybe Doug can handle special teams instead.
personally Id rather start fresh with a completely new lot straight across.....if you keep anyone keep gully. He's smart and obsessed w hockey and going over tape. |

For some odd reason, I can't remember why. He may have done something to the canucks or I hate his name but I (frank)ing HATE Tommy Wingels. - manvanfan
Same - he's one of the premier divers in the league. |

On what basis do you find Couture a sub-par player? He's got excellent creativity, a fantastic work ethic, is a two way presence, and a quality offensive threat. If you asked any of the 30 general managers you would get a resounding yes to having him on their team. The same goes for Jumbo Joe, who continues to produce at a high level despite the negativity he's had to deal with over the years (some of which might be warranted but most which is not). What are you seeing that the rest of us are not? You would honestly pass on these two players if you had a chance to have them in your line-up?? |

I think this round should be really good...these teams been playing great hockey, no one had an easy pass.
2 stanley cup winners on the east battling...should be good. Very impressive list of coaches left guiding these teams too. Although Sullivan has been a shocker.
SJ or preds tonight? Personally I think Deboer is smarter than he gets credit for, lets see what happens |

I think most don't see a downside in signing hamhuis, it's not like there are lots of UFA top 4 D available. Even if the have lots of depth on the left side, they are better off moving Sbisa than not signing hamhuis IMO. |

The downside is last year we had one of the worst D in the league and people are rallying to keep the top 4 in tact.
You have the money, the roster spot and assets to fix it, bringing back the same guy who was part of the problem is not the answer.
What do the fans of Vancouver like most about Hamhuis's game ? His two goals, his tenacious checking , his big hits or is it all about mentoring? |

he makes a mean salad
I don't want to lose Pedan on waivers (FC part 2), I am expecting some sort of shakeup on d whether Hamhuis is resigned or not. |

Might of just flagged you by accident....
Vancouver had one of the worst D in the league for many reasons and none of them were Dan Hamhuis.
They only had 3 players capable of playing in the top 4 and all of them had injuries and missed significant amounts of games.
Having to rely on Hutton, Sbisa, Bartkowski and Biega to play heavy minutes was largely the reason they were so bad. |

Aquillini can hire Dan to work the concourse Hotdogs and salad.
I think there will be some kind of shakeup too. |

I think realistically we have room for 1 high end UFA or 2 mid tier players.
Sedin,Sedin,Hansen, Sutter, Dorsett, Horvat, Edler, Tanev, Tryamkin, Hutton, Sbisa, Miller, Markstrom are the only players currently signed and guaranteed back IMO. That is 46.9 million.
Baertschi, Rodin and Larsen are all a very good bet so add 8 million for those 3 because both the euro's will have high performance bonuses I would guess.
Now at 54.9 add in Burrow's 2 million buy out and burying higgin's for 1.55 is now 58.4.
Say Granlund, Etem, Vey and Virtanen win 4 other spots we are looking at another 3.8 minimum, so now at 61.2 and we need a top 4 D and a top 6 winger
We have between 9 and 12 million (depending on what the PA does) to fill those 2 spots if they choose to spend right to the cap.
That could get you maybe a Brouwer and Demers at ~ 5 million each.
Sedin Sedin Hansen
Baertschi Horvat UFA
Etem Sutter Rodin
Virtanen Granlund Dorsett
Vey
Edler Tanev
Hutton UFA
Sbisa Tryamkin
Larsen
Miller
Markstrom - belcherbd
IMO there is no (frank)ing way i'm giving brouwer 5 million.

I don't know how many times Scooby came on here before Dans injury saying he looks like he is skating in mud. Dan got beat to the outside many many times.
Again what is it that you love so much about this guy that wants to see the same top four reunited? |

I am not advocating Hamhuis be back, but you nailed it. Without Hamhuis scheduled to be back, those 4 that were in over their heads are poised for more of the same next season unless they drastically improve, which is unrealistic.
I like Demers as Plan A, Hamhuis as plan B to solidify the top 4 |

The D was bad, the guys they called up were bad. No consistency in anyone but hutton and tanev. |
