I think there's a decent number of snipers who put up points consistently year to year and I hate to admit it but nobodys been able to slow Kessel down this playoffs.

His scouting report has always been scorer, and usually where he plays he ends up with more goals than assists. He is a good offensive player playing on a juggernaut team, so he was bound to pick up assists and play off of people thinking he was going to shoot

Sven hasnt done much of the highlight reel dangle goals, but he makes crafty little moves throughout the game which show his skillset

- WhiteLie

Yeah he is a scorer but not a sniper. A 30-30 type player. Thinking like T.J. Oshie, Patrick sharp.

I can see that, but a balanced roster can compensate for a pure sniper's lack of all-around game. Kessel is a perfect example of that. Is Pittsburgh where they are today if it wasn't for Kessel's playoff performace so far?
- bloatedmosquito

No but TB got there without stamkos, Ovie hasn't got Washington anywhere.

That is because Bonino is too much a tough guy. They are scared of his retaliation if they go after Phil.

would anybody believe me if I said that since Jonathan Toews entered the league he has scored 20 plus goals in every season?

Im not sure I get the difference or your definition of sniper, Sharp has been called a sniper in his Chicago days and Oshie has been called 2 way. There are lots of 30 goal scorers that are considered snipers despite their balanced stat lines (James Neal is another example)

No they wouldn't. I don't think it would a stretch to say Kessel should be considered for the CoNNe SmYthe.

I think there are very few snipers in the league. Stamkos, Ovie, Perry, Skinner, Neal, Kessel. forgot Tarasenko.

He's been real good for them, very balanced team Pitt has. Been one of the better players for them the entire playoffs.

Are you placing a point requirement on being a sniper? Vrbata is a sniper, Vanek is a sniper, etc.

Not a point requirement just a player you don't ask to play defence. Vanek and Vrbata were snipers. I went with more of now snipers.

Gaborik, Nash, Carter, Benn, Seguin, Hall and Kucherov would be others I'd consider snipers

Nash, carter power forwards.
Benn, Sequin, Hall are elite scorers. Like Kane, crosby, kucherov.

So basically only wingers then, since all C's are needed defensively?

Im just busting your chops a bit, but was curious how your definition was. I find its hard to explain, just some guys give you that dangerous score-at-will vibe, or has a hard/accurate shot and thats enough to call them snipers. Each has their own perspective on it

Those two guys could be so much more than just snipers. 440 lbs between the two of them. They play small.

That trade is looking absolutely TERRIBLE for Toronto.

Kessel for $6.5 Million
& 2nd round pick
-------- For --------
Scott Harrington
30th overall pick
Kapanen
3rd round pick.

Stamkos is technically a C!
I also find it hard to explain!!! Snipers to me are the guys that just shoot. Brent burns has a wicked shot but he's never going to be called a sniper because he can play defence also. Crosby could be a sniper, scores lots of goals but he also has a lot of assists. Same as Pat Kane, great shot but very good at setting up teammates for goals also.

Really instead of lumping players into one category, i've sorted them out a bit more.
