Nash, carter power forwards.
Benn, Sequin, Hall are elite scorers. Like Kane, crosby, kucherov. - manvanfan
Carter I dont think plays like your typical power forwards. He's a big body but doesnt play the physical style of a Lucic or even Benn for that matter. He can really shoot it and his consistent production of high 20's per season (only failed to reach 20 goals once in his career) is sniper-worthy in my books, the guy scores goals.
I would also aruge that "elite scorer" isn't a playing style, GM's aren't saying "we are developing Smith to be an elite scorer" There is usually a dominant trait, regardless of their other abilities (ie Crosby=playmaker, but scored 40 one year and plays good defense)
EDIT: https://www.easports.com/...-16-player-ratings-top-50 I think of these descriptions when I define these guys |

It is difficult to pin down when some forwards are defined based totally on their offensive skills with no mention of defense and with others you have to call them 2 way or shut down to explain their value
Yeah I reference the games a decent amount to get an idea of what type of hockey players play, although they occasionally get things weirdly wrong |

Was listening to 1040 and they are saying that there is talk of them trading the 5th overall pick? Would/could they be that stupid? Does anyone know what the rumors are if any? Or is it typical BS from those guys? - mauryballstein
We should trade the 5th for Arizonas 7th and 20th. Select Brown and Macavoy. Rebuild done |

Lol According to this Joe Pavelski is a 2 way forward but scored 38 this year. With that kind of numbers, i'm sure he could be considered a sniper.
Problem with that for me is your lumping 600 guys into 7? categories.
Edit: Shea Weber as a Defensive Defencemen. IDK if i'd say that. |

What are peoples thoughts on the 5th pick jumping in to the line up next season? I have seen a couple interviews saying TKachuk is ready next season, which would probably be in a limited 3rd/4th line roll. Could Dubois be ready next year too? He is bigger, faster and it seems like he plays a better two way game.
THoughts? - mauryballstein
Well that depends, can Tkachuk or Dubois beat out Burrows for a spot? I certainly hope so! |

If you get a chance go to thecanuckway.com and read about some trade proposals. Fun read but wow - VANTEL
I'd take the Arizona deal, moving Sbisa and Burrows and our 64th for Arizona's 20th and 158th. Take the best defensemen available at 20th, Fabbro or McAvoy. |

It would be interesting for sure but I might still prefer the higher potential of the 5th over the lower potential of the other 2 picks.
It sounds silly but I think I prefer the 13, 21, 50 suggestion that Lefty said.
I think there is a bigger jump in talent between 5 and 7 this year than 7 and 13.

Unless the deal is for Strome and the 20th, no chance in hell do I trade down. We need a blue chip 1C which we aren't going to get beyond 5OA. It's just not worth it, we need blue-chip talent more than we need depth at this point. |

The problem is Matthews is the only certain 1C. Will Brown, Dubois, Keller or Jost be a 1C? What about Mccleod?
I guess the point is one or two will potentially be a 1C but there are no certain stars amongst the center prospects |

Pretty much. Need a playmaker or 2 but most importantly a pure sniper. Although i wouldn't define Bae as a 2 way player, more of a playmaker/offensive guy. - NorthNuck
That's why I wish we would have taken Ehlers instead of JV at the draft. We have enough of the "character-power forward" types and needed a pure sniper. I guess the local boy thing was too much for them to pass up. |

I agree, I'm not into moving down either but would prefer the Carolina deal to the Arizona.
Strome and the 20th is interesting as well but I'm not that impressed with Strome either so it still is debatable for me.

Pavelski is doing great in the west and hes smaller then Jost, if the players are full of skill size isnt a big factor in the west, especially if Vancouver had Gudbranson/Tryamkin/Pedan/Virtanen watching out for the smaller guys |

He's who I always wanted.. Watched a lot of his junior play.. Wasn't upset we took JV because I knew it would happen but thought Ehlers could be a game changer |

It's Tuesday right?
Edler 5th and Gaunce.
for
Zibanejad, Zack Smith 12th and 42
Sedin Sedin Zibanejad
Baertschi Horvat Hansen
Smith Sutter Virtanen
Etem Granlund Dorsett
Burrows
Replace Edler with one of Yandle/Hamhuis/Goligoski/Campbell
Draft Bean/Jost/Macavoy at 12 and Hajek/Steel/Dineen/Bensen etc. at 42.
Zibanejad is 23 and could still be a #1 C for us, back to back 20 goal ~50 pt seasons.
Ottawa improves their D and get a great prospect at 5.

Markstrom may turn out much better than Demko, remember, Demko is going to be coached by Cloutier. - A_SteamingLombardi
Cloutier coaching methodology is to shoot a beach ball in from center ice until the goalie can save it. |
