The one take away I got from the Duthie quiz was that the Charlie McAvoy is physically gifted, which makes me wonder if he goes back to school or surprises by making an NHL club next season
- WhiteLie

With at least 3 D-men slotted in before him I wonder how far he slides down the draft. Would not be surprised if he lands between 10-15.

Columbus need a number one center . Don't be surprised to see them take Dubois
- VANTEL

If Dubois is gone, would you trade up for JP, down for Brown, or stay put and take Tkachuk?

I agree with this, but if we are focused on taking the consensus bpa, why have a gm that is good at drafting instead of one that is good at trades?

maybe JB is here for the later round gems, but if that is the case, he really should be assistant gm and a guy like Tallon gm.

Not even necessarily too far late. I just don't think it takes a rocket scientist to make a top 5 selection. People almost always go with the consensus BPA (or very close to it) because if you go very far off the board and (frank) up it looks really really bad but if you go with consensus you can always (rightly) claim hindsight bias when people criticize the decision after the fact.

Although I would say as early as pick 15-20 this effect starts to play less of a role and having a GM who is good at drafting starts to become much more of an advantage.

If CB does take Dubois that would screw up our consensus for him and I don't think that Edmonton would take him as they have enough forwards and need dmen like crazy would you take Jessie P who was the #1 consensus pick last year until Mathews and Lainey passed him?

If he's available at #5 I would absolutely take him, that's pretty much a no brainer.

I agree with the hindsight stuff, but going by some of JB's decisions, he doesn't really care about popular opinion if it is different than his own. Just waiting to see if these decisions make sense after some time has passed.

Kuzma on 1040 reported that Edmonton is going after Hamonic now. Makes sense since they lost out on Guddy.

Stay at 5 regardless of what happens and pick Tkachuk, Dubois or if by some miracle Puljujarvi.

I tend to agree with the consensus that regardless of what happens around us, we should keep the 5th pick and take whoever falls to us. But it would be nice to get another 1st rounder, even if it is a late one. Do we have the assets to trade for one? I don't really like the idea of losing Hansen but it seems any package would have to include him.

If I move up its only for Laine. I don't move down unless its too good to be true offer. I stay and take Tkachuk.

There is a pic in this article that makes Brazeau look like a giant, 6.4 vs. 5.10

.@craigjbutton: Canucks will soon need to replace Henrik; 6'6" centre like Logan Brown doesn't come around often.

Maybe Vantel is Button

At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see Tkachuk or Dubois go there although I still think it is most likely Puljujarvi is 3rd.

I'm not so sure that the jackets are looking for a #1 C. My guess is they believe Jenner will be that guy and that Dubinksy can insulate him for while longer.

Wennberg also has the potential to be a top C but less likely than Jenner IMO.

I dont expect him to be one of the first D chosen, but I think that if he is physically mature as those guys were saying, particularly Matthews who was playing with and against former NHLers, it probably says quite a bit about how strong he is and might surprise in a camp if he chooses to leave school

I would be fine with that if Dubois is not available. I think I would be fine with that if Dubois was available.

without your 2nd to move up from, seems hard.

for the leafs 30th, i probably expect back your 3rd this year and 2nd and 3rd next year.

I wonder if JB scouted all these players, top 10 or all the projected first rounders, in person?

Pitts has shown everyone that wingers can make an awkward skating centre into a Conn Smythe candidate.

Are you saying that Jenner is an awkward skater and that CLB has really good wingers?
