Winnipeg has one of the best GM's in the league.
And this trade makes Winnipeg older, and a lot WORSE. - classic321
tkatchuk (sentimental pick), Tanev, Hansen (Burrows is a throw in)
for
Schiefle and Trouba (plus picks that won't play this year)
i see Tanev as very capable of replacing Trouba for Winnipeg. Different skillsets.
and Hansen/Tkatchuk is pretty good at replacing Schiefle.
but yes, older for sure. |

In What way?
Dubois is young than trouba, we could take out the picks on WPG side and hansen out from out side. Tanev is older but not old. He is also what they need as Byf is a good QB.
Scheifele and Trouba both want significant raises that they may not be able to afford, but we can. They also come out of this draft with Laine and Dubois for a future corner stone. Imagine Ehler-Dubois-Laine as a top line. |

I feel the same way about Sbisa.
I thought he played pretty well last year and remember a lot of ppl admiting that they were wrong about him and saying he was playing good until he got injured.
I'm not totally sure about why he has a rep of being awful, but i suppose it has something to do with people wanting to get more for Kesler.
I think he has value and JB will attempt to trade him in the offseason. If not, i'm happy with him at #5 on D. - dbot
I think it was the amount of play time he was given. Wasn't ready for the additional minutes I don't think. I'm not saying he couldn't handle it and if he played with someone like Tanev I bet he balanced out a bit. I use Tanev as an example because he has enough speed to get back. Sbisa needs to work on his hit pinching awareness and quickness. He's still only 26. Not impossible for him to be better next year.

I understand what you're saying but Burrows would only be around for 1 year. The older part goes out the window after that... |

I'd still prefer to keep Tanev and the 5th.

How about...
To Columbus: 5th overall
To Vancouver: 3rd overall and Hartnell
Screw trading down and see how badly Columbus needs to shed some cap. My guess is they might listen. |

I doubt they move down 2 spots to dump a salary, but I would be willing to add a small to make it happen. |

I agree but if you look at their cap space currently it's pretty high. Without a cap raise they will be very close to the cap for next year. I'd add a very small piece but that's what I would lead with to see where their heads are at for Cap space relief. If they said no, I'd say ok thanks and let them simmer with it until the draft. I'm not sure JB is much of a salesman but you never know. |

Why are the jets trading Schiefle ?? He just came off a 30 goal 60 point season as a 23 year old....this deal is so one sided |

So why exactly dos Benning want to help Winnipeg? If Trouba and Tanev are comparable and Scheiffle and 5OA are roughly the same (though not for the upcoming season). And Trouba and Sch need more money in the near term and the Canucks need to keep building through the draft. Why make this trade? Why not take Dubois or Tku now and still build through draft?

because Aquaman wants to get 2 playoff games revenue now, not later. |

Perhaps but still a cap dump. |

Perhaps but still a cap dump. - WhatTheNuck
There is 2 types of cap dumps.
That scenario was implying they are so anxious to get out of a contract that they would trade down just to get that contract off their hands which makes no sense.
Columbus could trade Hartnell for picks tomorrow.
a cap dump where you give up value just to get rid of them is Dustin Brown, Andrew McDonald etc etc. |

Why do we want to give Aqua ideas?
I don't actually think Aqua is that greedy or shortsighted. I know that keeps getting repeated. How much money does he get for two or three playoff games? He can get that revenue by not spending to the cap or raising beer prices. |
