I am trying to prove we have plenty of youth and first round picks in our roster, we go from one extreme to the other.

Why do I still feel like we are the losers then?!

Benning has spent his whole life at the rink. He has played in the NHL and he helped build a Stanley Cup Winner.
He has had years of experience drafting and scouting .He is a hard working man and loves his job. He is also very good at his job.
He is not building a bottom 3 team like some suggest. We wont be a pushover team this year. We wont have everything going against us and if things do go South JB will jump on it . He wont be trying for a lottery win.
Have some trust in your team . |

We don't though, Daniel and Henrik are irrelevant, they were drafted 17 years ago. I like that Benning is keeping his first round picks and building with them, however, I'd like to see him place more value on 2nd round picks.
I do understand he tried to close a generational gap by acquiring, Vey, Pedan & Baertschi with picks but the team stinks, use those second round picks to draft future players.
If he can draft Dubois and he works out, with Virtanen, Boeser, Demko, Horvat, Gudbranson, Tanev and Tryamkin, I think they've got the makings of a good young core. However, they still need to keep drafting centers until they get a top line guy. |

Shinkaruk was turned into a 4th line center in Granlund, Gaunce is a bottom six forward, the Sedins were drafted 17 years ago and are 36 years old, McCann was traded for a younger dman.
Lots of work to be done through the draft! |

Benning still has a few holes left by previous management. In two years down the road he will be nowhere near as active in wheeling and dealing.
If we draft Dubois who is the player I want ( next Sergachev) Dubois will not be ready to step in as a number one when Hank retires. That is why he is very active.
Canucks were a mess when Benning took over he is quick fixing right now. When he has his top center and his top Dman things will be a lot less chaotic. |

The only truly talented players (but yet unproven) Bennings acquired, are thru the draft, the others IMO are depth players, and yes that includes Gudbranson. |

a premier shutdown guy isn't a guy I would label as a depth player. I think gubber has a chance to be that type of player |

Why is he suddenly "premier"? Because he wears a Vancouver sweater?
My opinion is he's a #4 guy, I like him, but he's a #4 guy until he proves otherwise. |

Virtanen is a really solid young player, he drives possession like few 19 year olds can. He's undervalued by you IMO. - LeftCoaster
Id agree with that. Given he came fresh from junior last year I suspect he'll do much better this year |

I've been watching the Canucks since I was 6 years old. I like JB and support the team in whatever direction we decide to go. Should've added a winkie face as well I suppose....

My guess is that was the whole thought process on bringing him in. Two years and we see if he can prove it. |

He is what he is, a defensive dman with good wheels and he's physical, a younger version of Willie Mitchell. Was Mitchell a premier player, no, but he was a good dman for the Canucks.
He brings much needed elements to the Canucks but he didn't become a premier player because he now wears the Canucks sweater. |

I like his game a lot and I think he's born to play a western conference style of game. We don't really have a legit d-man that can match up with any of the big forwards in the pacific division.... looking forward to seeing him match up against guys like Kopitar, carter, getzlaf, Kesler, Thornton, Monahan etc |

Agreed, he brings much needed elements to the Canucks, but he's far from an all-star player. |

You compare him to Dillon who was never drafted but Gudbranson went 3rd overall. |

who cares about draft position! Alexander Daigle, drafted first overall, is better than Gretzky, who was never drafted, because he's a first rounder?
Dillon and Gubranson turned out to be very similar players....Dale Talon says "whoopsie" |

first of all I said premier shutdown guy. I'm not expecting big point totals.
Not many shutdown guys ever make the all-star game, but they still have a ton of value in normal hockey. |

Numbers dictate he's not a good shutdown guy, but he is physical, plays better when he's partnered with an offensive player and he doesn't have to touch the puck a bunch. |

I watched a few of the panther games and gubber was often stuck with Campbell who is an absolute nightmare in his own end and gubber's numbers suffered as a result.
I think him and hutton have a chance to be a fantastic combo.... at least hutton knows where his own is, unlike campbell |

Take off the fan hat and put on the owners hat for a few minutes.
My GM has change the look of this team in 2 years.
My GM has drafted Boeser at 24 , Demko at second round , and Tryamkin in the third round. All three should be playing in the NHL by next year. Why do I need to finish bottom 10 when he can find players like this later on?
If I am trying to tank why am I paying 2 guys who are 36 years old 14 mil?
I am paying 70 million in players salary I want a winner.
I want to put out a product now , not in five to 10 years that fans want to see.
I have two guys that are 36 that I want to build a solid team around because I think our best chance is now.
This is why Canucks are in a win now. They don't need 23 players under 25 on the roster.
I am sure Aquillini has told Benning fix it now. |
