If Fleury was in net would the Pens be 1 game away from winning the cup? Doubt it... And that's why Murray wins the Conn Smythe.

Thanks for sharing that draft probability link Carol. It's pretty interesting but I would leave it at that. The 26.7% chance Laine falls to 5 is pretty telling of the accuracy of their modeling technique though. I think we all know there is virtually no chance (probably closer to 1% than 27%) that Laine falls to 5.

It's more interesting for later 1st round players in my opinion.

I would also say I think there is greater than a 5% chance Debrincat is available at 35. They probably had something similar for Kylington who fell much further last year.

Players slide from 25-35 all of the time, it has to be more than 5%.

Would you guys entertain an idea like

5OA(+?) for 9OA+Nathan Beaulieu+39OA?

Maybe throw Higgins in as a cap dump.

Than trade Edler for a top 15 draft pick(if he waives)

Both trades would require Edler to waive first.

Curious
Do NHL players have insurance for falls in draft rankings, etc due to injury/marketing like the NFL does?

You mean the potential draftees (e.g., Laine) insuring against falling down to the 5th pick? I don't even really understand how that would work.

Not bad, but the Canucks need the player at #5 more than any other team. He'll be the best player on the team + future captain.

Due to elc being pretty standard I doubt it. If they have any insurance it would be for career threatening injury stuff I would think.

Don't know how it could be anyone but Matt Murray.

Crosby or Kessel? wtf. Crosby has 2 secondary assists in the finals. How could that be a conn smythe winner?

He will probably now score the gwg tonight and win it, just like how he fluked out in the Olympics and got his first point in ot against the US.

@Razz

We could draft Brown at 9 and one of Keller or Jost at say 12(Ottawa). Future top 6 is set, we have Guddy/BoHo as future captains. and we have a solid top 4 that is young and will improve.

Carol, the Conn Smythe is supposed to be won by the player judged Most Valuable during the playoffs (the whole playoffs) for his team. Without Matt Murray it doesn't matter how complete Crosby's game is, Washington sure as heck would have outscored Pittsburg in Round 2 and Tampa Bay probably wins two of those OT games that they lost. The thing is, Crosby has only really played well in the TB series, Murray has consistantly played well through the whole playoffs. San Jose is making Pittsburg look good because of how slow they are compared to them. One series should not equate a player winning the Conn Smythe.

It isn't over people.

It could go to Jones or Pavelski if the Sharks come back.

I don't care that he hasn't scored in the Final. He has been playing a complete game and I've been impressed that we haven't seen him crying to the referees like he has been known to do in the past.

So if I'm reading this correctly Carol, you think Crosby should win the Conn Smythe because he hasn't cried for the whole playoffs?

In the NFL it happens a lot. Insurance agencies project a player and if for some reason they fall (the NCAA allows colleges to also pay premiums for loss-of-value insurance) and usually, has to be because of injury, players collect $.

Would be an interesting thing to consider for players who have a huge slide draft day or fall into the 2nd day of the draft

I would like to know who the as$hats were that voted Bonino.

If the Sharks win tonight, tomorrows poll should be who is the Conn Smythe for them as they have a few also.

Pavelski 13goals leading the playoffs
Couture 26 points leading the playoffs
Jones 3 shutouts and his team has the lowest goals per game this playoffs.

All it takes is Jones to go in to complete shutdown mode and win the next few games.

Games 1 and 2 in Pittsburg could have gone either way.

trade Edler

I think I'll just wait and see what happens, plus Canada plays Japan on Sat. and the Canadian Grand Prix is Sunday.

Let's be honest. Laine has a 0% chance of falling to #3 never mind #5
