The GM says they will make the playoffs and has already made one big trade and some smaller moves without the summer even beginning yet .

But some random guy named Reality Checker who has who knows what experience in building NHL clubs says they wont , who do you think I am going to believe. Some internet guy or the guy who can actually make trades?

- VANTEL

I am sit somewhere in the middle of this hysteria. I see excellent points to both sides of the equation. I will go out on a limb and agree we make the playoffs next year. The year before last I said the same thing in Willies first year as coach and it happened. Even cashed in on some good money riding on it. If this team stays healthy even as is, we make it as a wild card team I bet. Won't see the second round without a couple more additions.

Highlights of the season will be Sutter having a breakout year and breaks 55 points. Horvat scoring another 45 points and my dark horse for biggest surprise is Rodin. He has been in the Canucks system before and I feel he will have a good headstart heading into training camp. Book it.

left coaster eluded to this, but i'm guessing Mitchell and EG would be matched up against the other teams top lines and starting in their own end and when he played with Campbell it was probably the opposite.

i'm not a fancy stats guy, but from seeing games live I think canuck fans will be happy with what gubber brings to the table.

He will definitely be a fan favorite in Van...first time he stands up to a big bad Shark or King fans will anoint him the next captain

I think it will be suspect next year too, full of young guys going through growing pains as it should be. They weren't a very healthy team and we could certainly do better than bottom 5, but playoffs is quite a jump. were still deploying 16 or so of those same guys that nose dived at the end of last year at least.
- neem55

Shouldn't you see the final roster first?

We had Burrows Higgins and Vrbata in top 6 I really doubt anyof them will be back

Again, it's a moot point to suggest San Jose's d is better, as statistically they didn't allow more goals so there's not much ground for you to stand on there, I think there top 6 is much better, but also better than most teams really when healthy.
Dillon is not a comprably player because he plays less. That's the point. You cant compare a guy who playts regular top 4 minutes to a bottom pair and occasional top-4 fill-in guy, this is not a marginal difference in deployment or icetime.

- neem55

He doesn't play less, his TOI was higher than Gubranson. Dillion didn't start as much in his own end though.

Remember when Bieksa was here and Sbisa really really sucked ? Gudbrandson played with Slow Foot Wilie for most of his career . Lets see how he does this year.

Realistically they can sign one ufa, that's not gonna make them contenders. Also, it's my opinion they aren't trading anymore youth. So they're gonna rely on a healthier roster to be better, I think they will be better if they stay healthy, but not 20 points better.

I think him and Hutton will be a great pair. Hutton will have someone to allow him to rush the puck and punch someone in the face if they try and mess with him.

the funny thing is that you weren't even trying to run him down. you were tempering your expectations and allowing a DEFENSIVE DEFENSEMEN to show his worth. he's not going to be putting up big numbers so i can already see a segment of the fanbase that is going to fixate on that. we don't need others to think that he's better than he is.

They have 10 mil in space . Who says they have to bring back Vey or any RFA? Can they not be traded? I doubt Burrows or Higgins are coming back ? Who did they draft or did they trade?

I will get off this kick if you can write down who are definite top 6 is next year. This summer could be very eventful

Fair enough. That is this year. his first full year playing such minutes. He hasn't played those types of minutes as regulaly and his deployment is not a defensively rigorous over his career. EG has done it for a few years, Dillon for one. I think Dillon's a pretty good player, this playoff series he has looked bad but playoffs is a different animal. I personally think EG is further along than Dillon, but you've made some solid points. Also, if theyve played the same amount and you think SJ's defense is better that means EG has likely been deployed with worse players. I don't think their d's are that far apart. I do think Florida will miss him next year and he will slot into our top 4 well and for a long time, which for me makes this trade a big win.

The big question is: how much is JB going to overpay him, not the saaviest contract negotiator

I like the guy, I just don't think he's suddenly better because he's wearing a Canucks sweater. But I can take it, we all want the same thing...to have a better team.

agreed on both point. McCann as a center was expendable, the others are staying. One UFA and a healthy d corps makes us a bubble team that still doesn't score enough.

Could be for sure, but I don't see it.

Burrows and Higgins aren't going anywhere, I want them gone, but no one wants them. Buyout is plausible but it hurts down the road.

Anyone they draft won't make the team, unless there's a small miracle? Don't see anymore trades.

I've said repeatedly I like having him, but how much he'll improve the team is yet to be determined. They'll be harder to play against for sure, plus, Hutton might flourish with him.

I'm hopeful but I'll believe it when I see it over an 82 game schedule.

Benning has hinted that he might go for Stamkos . I don't see it happening but who knows. If he throws enough money. The point is you cant say how the team will finish next year when they are just beginning to open up the doors for business.

I don't like Dreger but he has some inside info about when he talked to JB who said he does not want to miss the playoffs again.

JB wont trade the top 5 for a 30 year old but he could very well trade it for a young ready now top 4 Dman or top 6 young forward

I have seen too many times Edler and Tanev stand around while the goalie gets ran in to. I will be buying an EG jersey.

Benning wants to make the playoffs, no way would Vey or Rodin be pencilled in top 6.
