Brayden Schenn was just on the FAN 590 and said it's always been his dream to play for the Buffalo Sabres. - jak521

We share the same opinion. Then again, I think the Dead, Phish, DMB, Nickleback, and Cook are all unlistenable. |

I think if Schenn would take 5M X 3 yrs the deal would be already done. Maybe even 5.5
More then fair from the Flyers standpoint, but from the player and agent standpoint, I'm guessing they want something closer to 6M per and 4-5 years.
Hence the standoff. It likely will get done but north of 5M is my guess.
Look what Gudas got. I know they are apples and oranges but most expectations fro him were closer to 2.5 -2.75 per.
- Marc D
My expectation was 3 x 3 but the AAV went up because of the extra year. |

Does Schenn (after a 3 year, 15.5 million deal), Streit (50% retained), Laughton/Read, a 2017 1st, and 2017 3rd, start the conversation for Taylor Hall and Yakupov? |

After 1 year where his team screwed around with him, I think it's a tad early to say that. I saw him at the U20s this year (as a 19 year old), and he definitely didn't look like a lost cost. He has a lot of talent and grit. He could have a great year in the CHL if he'd just come over. It would be the best scenario for his development as an undersized player. - Mononoke
He is a smaller player that doesnt possess blazing speed. He was a 5th round pick for a reason. He also (from all accounts) doesnt really possess the greatest off ice work ethic.
He does have good hands. He can shoot a bit, and has natural talent. But he didnt do Richard at the WJC. He had 1 point in 5 games as one of their top guys. |

#6 overall pick Zacha had 1 assist in 3 games as their best player. Means nothing. I watched him, and he was playing hard. You can play well and not score, you know. Odds are always against him and any player taken in the 5th, but he's 19 and had a mismanaged year and is physically immature. Hexy would not have taken him if he didn't see upside, especially as a smaller player late in the draft. How about we wait a couple more years, hm? |

I watched every game myself. I didnt think he played well at all. He was a passenger the whole time. He had a few moments where he would turn it on, but he didnt stand out at all IMO. He put himself in the position he is in, not the other way around. He is choosing to stay home. He wants to play in a Tier II Czech league where he can be the big boy and put up points. He was in WAY over his head in Pirati. But that was on him. If he chooses to stay put again, that (at least IMO) will likely put any NHL chances to rest.
Yes, it's early, but the kid doesnt have a ton going for him, lacks size and speed, and doesnt have a good work ethic. Add to that the fact that he doesnt seem to have any desire to do whats best for his "NHL career" and I dont even worry about him.
EDIT:
Dont get me wrong, I am not rooting against the kid. I want nothing but the best for every single Flyers prospect, but he is doing what he wants to do, not what is best for him.
He does have talent, and he is competitive, but there are a lot of things that trump the good that he has going for him right now. |

I cannot believe he'd say that in an interview as a present Flyer who is only an RFA. And he's from Saskatchewan....how does Buffalo come into that?
But if he dreams about beautiful Buffalo, Hexy should let him live his dreams. Reinhart or Nylander please. Then he's all yours! - Mononoke

Honestly, I think you'd have to ask Peter Chiarelli and the Edmonton Oilers |

Fine, agree to disagree. I'm not willing to write him off yet. He's physically underdeveloped and needs a lot of weight training, but I don't know how you watch him compete tenaciously on the ice and then question his work ethic. Not every kid is Julien Gauthier off-ice at that age. That's the easy part. But if he doesn't want to come over again, after the year he had, then my sympathy for him goes down. Like I said, he needs to grow up and leave home. |
