Big Time Spending?
The Boston Bruins are reportedly considering going after one of the top young defenceman in the game. According to Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com, the B's are preparing an offer sheet for Winnipeg Jets D-man Jacob Trouba.
The restricted free-agent scored six goals and added 15 assists over 81 games with the Jets in 2015-16, just his third year in the NHL.
Haggerty reports the Bruins would likely submit an offer that the Jets would not consider matching, somewhere in the range of $47 million over seven years. If they end up signing the 22-year-old to an offer sheet, Boston would have to give up four consecutive first-round picks.
Trouba, selected ninth overall by Winnipeg in 2012, is coming off a three-year entry level contact and is a RFA.
The Jets already have defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Tyler Myers locked up through 2020-21 and 2018-19 respectively.

They were in contention though.
I would love to trade for their future first rounder in like 2018 |

Considering the Bruins recent slew of 1st round picks, I don't think losing 4 more would any great loss. |

Basically, this will have the exact opposite effect of the Kessel trade. Instead of getting 2 top-10 picks, they'll likely be giving up at least 2 top-10 picks if not more. |

I was hoping Hexy could maybe deal Read and Streit /Amac get some space and try and sign Okposo but reading he could fetch up 8m AAV..... That's Giroux money !!! |

What they've done the last few years has been a wonderful sight to behold.
Trading a now top 10 player in the NHL for quantity. Reilly Smith is a good young 50 point 2-way guy though...wait what's that? Traded him for 30 point Jimmy Hayes? Loui Eriksson though is a really good 50-60 pt vet...letting him walk for nothing, you say? Brett Connolly...2 2nds and don't even qualify him now. Lee Stempniak for a 2nd and 4th. John-Michael Liles for a 3rd. Poorly handled Hamilton trade. Disaster drafting the last 2 years.
No present; no future. |

That Seth Jones deal is great for CBJ.
I wonder if the Flyers go long term with Ghost on his next deal vs more of a bridge contract.
How much will he get? |

Absolutely sign the long term deal. I believe in Ghost long term. Try to sign him to a Couturier-like contract. 6 years, $4.25AAV. |

Seems like the way to go.
I wonder how it will go for Provorov Morin and Sanheim.
How will he manage the cap if all become top 4 D
Good problem to have I guess |

From a Bruins fan perspective he should do it. His history with first rounders is abysmal.

It's the luxury of drafting your own defensemen. Flyers can sign them long-term and buyout some rfa years, which will keep the cap hit low. That's how guys like Duncan Keith become even more valuable. |

It depends on how each does, and ceratinly having them staggered season by season will help. Maybe a couple of them can be signed to shorter term RFA deals -- I doubt Morin gets a quick 6 year deal to buy up UFA years. Certainly Ghost being older than the rest when he started his ELC puts him on a quicker contract trajectory than the others.
But really, when they're on their ELCs, then 1-2 on bridge deals and another couple on long-term deals signed for cheap $$, it's all manageable. This is why they shouldn't go hog wild spending money this year, the next, or anything in the near future. These guys will need to be paid. This is where 6 year contracts for guys like Schenn can muddy things up too. |

I wonder if some of the UFA guys don't get the huge dollars and term they are expecting.
Of course Stamkos is getting a max deal, and Okposo and Lucic will too.
i wonder about players like Ladd, Eric Staal and Backes.
have the GMs seen the light and these guys wont get more then 3 year deals?
i guess it only takes one team but i could see these guys not getting what is rumored. |
