Does Weal have to significantly out play for example Leier, to earn a spot? - J35Bacher
Are they even competing for the same roster spot? Leier's probably up against White/VDV, where Weal would probably have to cement a scoring role to stick, right? |

No problem with giving Leier a shot, but it's a good idea to have a Plan B and Plan C as well. - jmatchett383
Also, bringing in an established guy cant hurt. Let Leier get a full crack at being the top dog at LHV and #1 call-up. |

Agreed, Weal needs a top-9 spot to stick. No sense in putting him on the 4th line. |

I dont know. I dont think that would make much sense. He is an interesting player for a few reasons... He is a big center/wing forward who has taken a pretty long time to develop. Bigger players usually do take a long time, but he is 26 coming off of a 44 point season. He has a great combination of skating, skill and size. He has struggled to find consistency and to stay healthy, but I still think he can be a solid third liner who can bounce around the lineup a bit.
Also would not be totally surprised to see him have a big year next year. That tends to happen with bigger guys. They figure poop out and become a bit more consistent. - jak521
I think if he hits UFA, he will be pretty expensive to sign. No shortage of teams in love with his Logan Brown-ness. |

Scott Laughton turned 22 in May..... - mochoson
Brayden Schenn was a half decent NHLer at 22 and some would like to trade him. |

Recchi, Brind'Amour, Roenick and Jagr will all obviously get in. It's ashame LeClair doesn't have the numbers to get in. - roenick97
I don't think it's THAT obvious that Brindy gets in.
Recchi should already be there.
JR is already in the Hall of Fame in his own mind, so there's no point in actually inducting him. |

Aw, man. Buddy Ryan has passed
They weren't able to get over the hump, but man, those were some really good teams they put together, including one of the best defenses I have ever seen

Jagr will never get in, since the guy will never retire. |

I don't think Leier is just a 4th liner though. That's why I asked. I think Leier fits in a 3rd line top 9 role, almost what Read's role was when he first got here
I don't see Weal in the top 6 so he'll be competing with guys like Leier, Laughton, Cousins, Bardreau, maybe Martel or any other young players or possible FA brought in |

Pirri, Brett Connolly, Jon Merrill and Joe Colborne interest me among the non-tendered. I guess you could toss Latta into that group. - Jsaquella
I am with you there
question...where does sam gagner rank on that list? |

Pirri is a guy im really not sold on. I have not watched him enough recently...but I feel like his goal scoring streak just made promises that he wont actually live up to. He is certainly better than a lot of players available, offensively that is even more obvious.
Just feels like a Dom Brown or Ben Zobrist (for power) kind of situation...cranked out this crazy milestone and he will make a career out of people wondering if he can repeat it - YuenglingJagr
Florida and Anaheim giving up on him within months is a big red flag. |

He wasn't non tendered, he was scheduled to be a UFA.
The thing with Gagner is, he pretty much is what he is. Guys like Pirri, Connolly, they haven't had the NHL experience Gagner has. They still can potentially grow and take more steps. |

I wonder how much expansion will play into goalie contract negotiations...you can take less money and stay here with us...or you can be our obvious expansion draft candidate

It's a concern, but on a one year deal it's not a huge risk. |

Brian Burke actually announced that at a season ticket holder event that Colborne could ask for $3.6m and they weren't going to be stuck with that kind of number.

It's pretty comical that the two guys Washington traded Filip Forsberg for are no longer with the team. Meanwhile, Forsberg just signed long term in Nashville. |

Tim Kerr was a beast in front of the net... Bill already stated it quite nicely in the article.
I am a bit too young to remember the Flyers 70's teams... but the unit of Kerr, Propp, Poulin, McCrimmon, and Howe had to be one of the best fivesomes the Flyers have iced in their history. I know they didn't always play together as a unit, but when they did... it was about as good as could be. |
