And way overpaid
- Scoob

So what would be the feeling if that is what Schenn gets?

Ok.

Well Saad is at 6 million a season too.

- J35Bacher

Yes, he is. My point is you'd have a better chance of making the argument of deserving 6M using Saad as a comparable than Forsberg. Even Saad is a couple of years younger.

I think he's above Kadri, but below Saad, and certainly Forsberg. So I think the number for Schenn is 5M a year. That would be a fair deal.

Guys good news...my wife is due 8/1...I have convinced her that if it's born on 7/28 and is a boy...I get to name him Claude

By convinced her, I mean that she laughed directly to my face and told me to shut the (frank) up, but I would call that progress...I have a month to negotiate

- YuenglingJagr

Congrats man. My wife is due on the same day our first son was born.

SO no matter they are still looking at 6 million.

He'll probably come in around 5.75 over 5-6 years.

I just don't think it's going to be a cheap or deal many like.

I think 5 x $4.5 is fair but wouldn't cry too much if it went to $5 as long as there wasn't an NMC/NTC attached.

No, but he's been a solid player otherwise. Could be a solid bottom or middle six option.

I'm not looking at 3 or 4 years on any of these guys. One year, show me deals.

- Jsaquella

His possession numbers were boosted from playing w/ Bergeron and Marchand... he's just not a very good NHL player.

You don't.

But what does his agent and the player think?

- J35Bacher

They hold little power as RFA. Arbitrators opinion on comparisons would matter the most.

I don't think he has a prayer of getting 6M. I think 5M is a fair deal.

Two years at $3.3m for McGinn. Trade Streit at 50% + 4th for Dwight King.

Schenn-G-Simmonds
McGinn-Couturier-Voracek
King-Raffl-Read
Laughton-Cousins-Bellemare
VdV

MDZ-Ghost
Provorov-Gudas
Schultz-MacDonald
Manning

- Feanor

You could go deep in the playoffs with that -- worse teams have

You also told me that Columbus would drop down and get more assets over taking a center.

not everything works they way you think.

If Schenn was looking for money around the 5 million range I have a feeling this deal would be done. Teams would like to know what money they have and allocated where for FA so they can plan.

I'm alarmed at the thought of Schenn with a cap hit over 4mil, let alone 5mil.

He has not done enough to warrant that amount. Paying players based on projected expectations is a recipe for disaster.

I can't see Hexy giving him a long contract at a cap # being discussed.

2-4 year deal at 3.9mil at the most. If we are going to keep him I would rather not have the burden of a large cap hit weighing him down and hampering his development.

You don't have to pay $6 million, and you don't have to trade

If you can't beat Brayden Schenn in arbitration, you are just poopty at arbitration

It's a negotiation that takes place over time. I have no doubt that Schenn and his agent have come in high in opening rounds of talks. 5M range is where I think it'll end up in the end. Flyers have RFA leverage.

It isn't paying him based on projected expectations. His production in recent seasons is worth more than 4M a year.

I think it took many bridge gaps before Voracek was offered what he's getting paid today. I think Jake has seen 3 different cap hits since being here and even now I would argue that Jake is a front line player but his game still needs work. Jake has never been Claude Giroux. With Brayden Schenn, he still has time to grow as a player and he is.

I am fine with giving Schenn 4.8 for 3 or 4 years to give him fair time to possibly get that big payday when he's 29. Whether or not we want him in 4 years or he's simply traded, we'll see.

I know it is.

But I think he is coming in higher than 5. I think that is being optimistic. I see about 5.5-5.75.

Bridge deal (frank).

One breakout year of generally consistent effort after previous seasons of looking invisible for long stretches.

End this damn trend of paying guys too soon.

Thanks Bill. Good stuff as usual. I thought that McD could be brought up to the 4th line, so that we could let White go, and not have to bring in someone like Latta. I guess we are pretty much stuck with the same D as last season. Also, we really need to find a winger for the first line. And I don't know where Lyon fits in, unless we plan to dump one of the other goalies, and bank some salary. So, until the kids get some more seasoning, I don't see much of a different team next season. Hopefully, we will have some better luck in the injury department, as well.

Congrats man, just make sure she is sleeping when the doctor comes in to ask the name. Once it's on the birth certificate it's binding right?
