that Clarkson contract is the greatest thing ever. i really hope Dave Nonis is put in charge of another NHL team at some point. the NHL is more fun with him around. |

Paul, why can't the cbj put Clarkson on LTIR when the season starts and get cap relief that way? He' been hurt all the time he's been here, I think it is 17 games he's played in since the trade. |

he's a fill in GM like when you are playing pickup hockey and you are missing a goalie and you put up the jersey in the net...that bad.

All too true, but the cbj rolled the dice that Clarkson would be an effective player like he was for the Devils, and at least better than who they traded him for. Its just like Hartnell, the cbj brought him in as a piece they needed to be a threat to win the East, and that risk failed too.
If you take a chance and it doesn't work out that's life sometimes and you pnoy up the cash for it. The CBJ has to do it twice.

Was the right player to buyout. It's a bad salary for an underperforming player who also had a NMC. Killed a bunch of birds with that one stone. Now you can wait and see how the season goes and determine if you want to protect Johnson or Savard and perhaps move the other or let him be drafted possibly. |

Hartnell did what he had to do and we got him for next to nothing , we only have to hope he can keep the production going as he looms into his twilight years. |

they can do that but Clarkson needs to be seriously hurt and willing to do that. At this point we really dont know his status at all. Ideally though that would be perfect. LTIR and have the insurance pick up the tab for his deal. |

This feels like that one scene in The Dark Knight where all of the blue jackets fans are on one boat and David Clarkson and his contract are on the other boat and they have to decide if they're going to blow the other one up. |

Thank you for the information Paul and Alex. If I remember what I read in the Columbus Dispatch what seemed to be 500 times last year, he has back issues that kept him out of games.
Don't get me wrong, I feel awful for the man, who wants to sit and get paid for doing nothing? Clarkson is professional hockey player with great skill and talent, or he never would have gotten to the NHL in the first place. The same with Boll, and so many other people who seem to get looked down on in many of these threads, and other sites.
It's just that he hasn't been healthy since the trade, and personally I think he wasn't healthy before the trade, Toronto knew it, and traded him anyway. But that doesn't matter at this point, if he's on LTIR the worry about cap space goes away and a big problems with the expansion draft disappears too. |

Long shot, but saw wiz got bought out today. Anyone think there is a chance they'd bring him back on a 1 year deal figure he's a better bottom 4 option than prout or goelbeuf. |

Nope. He's gotten pretty banged up since the Blue Jackets traded him. |
