That strategy has worked well for Nashville. They really didnt need to draft Seth Jones, they already had a stud lineup of D and now they have a 1C in Johansen

Not even close. Calgary had Kipper and Iggy that was it.

Jbo (additional trade bait), Gio, Brodie, backland....were there to. So a better D corps to build on then the canucks today.

I meant they are these key players more value as a trade piece to speed up rebuild....Or can we build around them to take a shot scenario.

to be honest, canucks are maybe just slightly deeper in the prospect pool and have one more high level key piece then flames had in those dark days. Not a knock on the canucks, I just hope they don't cling to chasing the cup for the sedins and make the needed calls at the right time.

They aren't done...but what is their better value.

With Calgary's defence I expected them to be a lot better last year and they never met any expectations their fans may have had.

Can you imagine if Canucks went the TO way. They got absolutely trash back in return for Dion and Kessel. We have people here still crying over Garrison for a second .

The signed a slow Dman that they got rid of months earlie as one of their two signings.

They missed out on Stamkos and are having problems signing the player they tanked for last year. To me that franchise is a mess but people still buying the koolaid .

Hate to defend the Leafs.. but they plan for another top pick this year. Sure they would have loved Stammer. I wanted him there just to ruin their cap situation going forward. But signing g Polak for 1 year means they can flip him again or an asset (wink 2.0) at the TDL.

They'll sign Matthews. Not everyone signs right away. Juolevi hasn't signed either. it's not toxic over there.

On another subject, if canucks sign hudler that'll ruin their expansion protect list. I guess JB is looking at making another big trade. I'm bracing myself. Shinkaruk and McCann already moved out. Better not move JV or Boeser. Brock may be the only elite prospect we have. JV's skill set is rare. He is the kinda guy i want in a tough playoff series.

No more room to move prospects. Time to push for playoffs, move assets out at TDL if tits not working out. Time to hoard picks rather than trade them. JB has filled out a lot of the much needed age group we had been missing.

Draft them.
- VanHockeyGuy

I agree however easier said than done. While I feel Juolevi will be excellent for us not sure he is a 1-2 guy. It takes a bit of luck as well as shrewd drafting. I feel JB can get us that no 1 dman but whether it's drafting or another means remains to be seen.

Very true and also the Flames have outright refused to spend on a true no 1 goalie since Kipper...Elliott may change that

Why won't Juolevi be a number 1? I don't understand when people (not you) say an 18 year old kid maxes out as a 2 or 3 dman. He will have the size, skating and intelligence to be a star defensemen. When a player that has all the tools to succeed but doesn't it's almost always due to commitment or poor hockey sense. Sky is the limit for this kid if he works hard.

I think the arguably the best defence man in the draft has the potential to be top #1 D in the league. To say he isn't is sad really.

- VanHockeyGuy

The first two points are definitely flag worthy...the 3rd flagged point is probably warranted as his point doesn't make sense. Overall, decent flagging

As long as Elliott can post better than .900 sv% the defense will look much better ...dougie is not new to the team ...wouldn't surprise me if the D got better and the offence took a hit tbh

I agree with a lot of this, but public perception is a huge deal to Aquilini, just ask Mike Gillis.
- VanHockeyGuy

I can't really argue with this. I don't know what their motivation is.

Yeah but the idiot fans that only follow the media are making the people who actually know a little about hockey look like morons because we are lumped in together as fans.
- manvanfan

Oh well. When the Canucks were contending we were all considered a bunch of arrogant d bags. Fans get lumped together, it's not going to change.

It doesn't matter. They don't want to go and even if they could be convinced to what contending team can absorb a 14 million dollar cap hit? I love the Sedins but because of their NTCs and the fact that they come as a pair they might be the least tradeable elite players in the league.
