Is it actually possible that Lamoriello is playing hardball with Matthews? if so, great way to disenfranchise a kid who is supposed to be the savior of the club. Regardless of what's really going on, I think Lamoriello is a bit of a dinosaur and isn't well suited in terms of being a key in a rebuilding role. The dynamics in the Toronto market are substantially different than was the case in New Jersey, where he had complete autonomy. These days it is clear that athletes dictate and hold the cards in most negotiations and I think Lamoriello's 'my way or the highway' approach is an archaic concept.

Look where his eyes are pointed. Both Shanny and Lou are giving him the thumbs up behind the photographers.

Carol, I see Eklund is rumoring Hudler to sign in Van. Are you hearing anything or is this just another made up rumour. Also, do you know what happened with the potential Landeskog deal? Any update on Shipachyov?

Looks like it. May not lace them up for the blue and white

Smart kid. He probably looked at the roster and said " I'll need a lot more money than that if you want me to play here"

Maybe he will go back to the Swiss league

That's an option for sure. I think the KHL would be another option (lots more money for him).

I think Lou doesn't want to pay him so that they can clear cap space for Tavares

They've got that covered with Greening, Robidas, Hunwick, Michalek, Laich and Polak coming off the books.

I think he's thinking bigger to be honest.

Benn, Shattenkirk, Burns and then JT the year after.

I'll give him credit, it's clever thinking

I believe the link between the Canucks and both Hudler and Shipachyov is the players' agent, Petr Svoboda. My guess is that buzz we heard last week was Svoboda trying to drum up interest in his clients in order to improve his bargaining position. I don't think the Canucks are interested in Hudler, but maybe that's my wishful thinking.

I'm also guessing that the reporter from News1130 who has been feeding us all these scoops lately is on vacation, which is why their Twitter feed has been bone dry for hockey info this week. Hopefully he'll be back soon to fill us in!

One last guess: they're crazy if they move either player, but I think the Avs are more likely to deal Duchene than Landeskog. I've said this before—if Duchene is available, the Canucks should be at the front of that line. He's 25, sharp as a tack, and an excellent two-way centre.

He should talk to the Canadian Tire CEO.

Here's a fresh tweet on the Matthews situation:

Confirms that the Leafs and Matthews are at a stalemate over bonuses, but says both sides continue to communicate....

He probably wants more than Laine and Pulj. Makes sense as he was 1OA.

Pat Brisson

Edit: Brisson brokered the deal to the Swiss League, I assume he is still his agent

I do not. I don't think I've seen his name mentioned (obviously he has one).

It'll be interesting to see if his agent is leaking stuff (you know it's not coming from Leafs management, they only say clichés).

I wonder what angle the agent is taking by going public. His bonuses are limited (maxed) and the ball is in his client's court. He holds the power.Yet interestingly it looks like the agent is telling people the situation possibly including Howard Berger and Steve Simmons

Yes the bonuses are limited but they can be worded to make them easier to achieve.

Yes, Brisson is consistently linked to Matthews on Twitter.

Check out his Wikipedia page. He reps Kane, Crosby, Toews, Kopitar. Lots of the big boys.

According to the page, he was also the agent who brokered Roberto Luongo's trade from the Canucks to the Panthers...

Not to mention the entertainment factor - the guy is an exciting player to watch. Explosive speed and slick moves, I love watching him play. Like you said, though, it would be a crazy move unless the return was phenomenal (which is unlikely, given what the market has dictated for top 6 forwards)
