Id like that. Random thought but if they start out really poorly this year (like on pace to finish as bad or worse than last year) do they fire Bylsma? Might be what TM has to do to save his job in that scenario. - Sabresfan-365
hmmmm. And start over with the players/new coach excuse ? I think if it were to happen (not making the playoffs by a large margin) the coach firing would be at the end of the season.
Agreed. We need a top 2, maybe #1 still - sbroads24
If there was ever a time id appreciate TM's propensity for overpaying it would be now. Do what you have to do to find that piece. You'd be surprised how much of an impact that one player will have both directly and indirectly.

We don't have the pieces to though.
Only one I can think of would be Reinhart, and with Kane being Kane, and Vesey unsure to sign, don't think you can pull it off

Sort of. If they start off really poorly but turn it around under a new coach (still missing out by a lot in this scenario) you can play that card to renew hope with fans and save your job. No guarantees it works but with your job on the line you'd certainly try it.

I doubt we are better than 3 of those teams this fall

Bruins, Habs and Red Wings I will go on record now saying we will be ahead of those teams.
Habs are a dumpster fire with or without a healthy Price.
The Bruins are a joke
I will say this is the year the Red Wings miss out on the playoffs. Too much money tied to their goaltending and they just squeaked into the playoffs last season and got worse.

Depending on how the dice fall these are the teams we're going against. All 3 of those teams have issues and it just depends on which team plugs the holes better. It'll be a challenge for sure but I do think there's a chance.

I disagree on the Habs being a dumpster fire. I don't think they improved much this year but with a healthy Price they can win games. I think they make the playoffs over us.

I could see Philly getting in over Detroit but I just don't know enough about either team. I think we end up better than the Devils, Blue Jackets, Toronto, Ottawa, and maybe Boston but that one is harder.
Edit: Forgot Carolina was a team. They go below the Devils.
Don't you think another team could beat a spare parts deal?
Depends on the D man I suppose - sbroads24
Yea, its whether theyd want to. If we were talking Lindholm then yes theyd beat it easily. But if we're talking a #2 then it may just be a question of are your spare parts more enticing to us and can you take salary back etc.
He didn't make the Kane, ROR, and Lehner deals to make the playoffs in 2018, sorry. - sbroads24
Question is, does changing the GM benefit the team at that point? Will a different GM bring us to the playoffs faster than him at that point in time? Or is it a lateral move? I agree he's on the hot seat if we don't make it and I'd probably fire him but does him being replaced at that moment make any difference short term?
