Maybe I am just splitting hairs but while I wouldn't say we have a top 16 playoff defense now, I don't think we are far off and the term weak is a bit over the top.

Barring significant injury, again, I see us most likely having a top 16 playoff level defense requiing only minor development as early as the end of the season or the next.

Goaltending could, would, should be solid.

Our forward group is one of the better in the league and theoretically should help with the defensive growing pains.

good write-up. I got all the way to paragraph 6 before you mentioned the word "corsi" when I stopped reading. The first 6 paragraphs made sense though, I agree that he'd be a rather low risk signing and a decent utility guy back there on the 3rd pairing.

Last year the Oil started with:

1 Top 4: Sekera
1 possible, but not proven Top 4: Klefbom
A string of not Top 4: Everyone else.

This year:

3 Top 4: Sekera, Klefbom and Larsson
1 possible, but not proven Top 4: Davidson
1 guy who can tred water in the Top 4 with the right partner: Fayne
A string of guys not Top 4.

I won't say it is cup worthy, but it is definitely improved and I wouldn't call it weak.

Putting at least one of them on the ice in most all situations and this team will make solid headway.
