Probably because Roy is an ego maniac.

It is strange why the Avs are so bad. They have 2x 1C in Mackinnon and Duchene, a 1LW in Landeskog, and a top 6 RW in Iggy + other good forwards. Their defense is lacking a bit but is still in good shape. And their goalie is actually pretty good as well.

They looked like a pretty dangerous young team the first year. I suspect Roy wanted to hand Mackinnon the reigns and trade Landeskog for d... I personally do think that's best if it was the case.
