Yeah. This was no surprise. Also not surprising it can be called for shadowing. Chiarelli is GM of Team North America and the Edmonton Oilers. Oilers are without a captain. Oilers media released at the start of the offseason that they are looking to name a captain this coming year. Arguably the favorites for the job were two of the current alternate captains, RNH and Hall. The other obvious was McJesus. Hall was discarded for magic beans and RNH is on Team North America and didn't get the C despite being a veteran leader and his numerous appearances on the international stage. We knew it was going to be McDavid when Oilers announced it would be 1 person and not 3 alternates. No surprise here that Chiarelli gives the C to the guy he is about to give the C to. I would like to believe that half a year of NHL exp is enough to lead this group of amazing players. Still it is tough when Chiarelli is the worst GM in hockey history. |

So you liked the Hall trade?
To be fair, McDavid is an exceptional player who deserves a captaincy, just not sure if now is the best time. As long as he doesn't start playing somebody else's game or tries too hard to single-handedly win games, he'll be fine.
His line-mates looked a little out of sync last night. The Nuge line and the Eichel line looked great against Team Europe. Team Europe? I'd be surprised if the win a single game at this tournament.
In a competition where teams assemble all star caliber lineups, team Europe has a squad that would finish 31st in the NHL this year, if such a roster were ever assembled. Their best forward was Draisaitl by a mile, except there is no one near good enough to keep up with him, unless Kopitar was his winger. |

Seriously, who thought anyone but McD was going to be the big cheese? RNH would probably put him C aswell. RNH should put his head down & train harder than ever & really put in a great year (otherwise his arse may get traded for a promising young Dman ![;)](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif) ), throw his support behind his captain & gain huge respect amongst his peers. |

MacKinnon or Saad were talked about since they have the most NHL experience out of the bunch but it was always going to be McDavid...this is his league now. |

I honestly thought it was going to be Saad. McDavid is the right choice but just off of how the NHL works I thought the "look at the cupzz" argument was going to win the day. |

Eh, if a guy's a leader a guy's a leader. There have been plenty of successful super young captains in the NHL. Crosby and Toews in recent memory. I wouldn't worry about lack of experience when it comes to a cat like McJesus. |

Im thinking about in a marketing way. if this team wins, what image do they want to be pasting all over the hockey world...Saad, Ekblad, etc getting the trophy, or the new cash cow. NHL would be creaming themselves if that happened
McDavid is worthy of getting the C, im sure everyone is in awe of him in that dressing room with what he could do and well respected. |
