His versatility was tremendous and I'll always remember being there when he picked up the puck along the boards heading towards the blue line, turned 180 along the wall driving towards corner before sending a perfect cross crease pass to Briere who scored the OT winner "on at least his 15th shot of the game innnnnn oooovvvveeerrrrrtime!"

Maybe Bylsma is going with something he knew worked at the start of last season?

Or perhaps he wants to get him more time there in practice before he puts him there for a game?

He has been playing wing for a while now . Maybe he has gotten used to it and wants to stay there. I dunno.

Agreed, several players, coaches, analysts have said this as well. Saying that it still affects you even after that time frame.
